My Kindle Fire is frozen up and won't even turn off...I have waited a couple of days thinking the battery would die and maybe I could charge it and it would be okay. Any suggestions???

**Meya** says:
Make sure it's fully charged. Unplug the Fire.
Hold the power button in for 30 seconds (count them).
Press the power button again to turn it back on.
The "kindle fire" screen will appear for a couple of minutes while it's coming back on.

Kathi, I'm sorry to hear that!

A couple of things:

To restart a Kindle Fire, unplug it, and hold your power button for a few seconds. It will ask you if you want to "shut down" the Kindle. Tap that choice, and it will turn off. That's different from the RSKs (Reflective Screen Kindles...anything but a Kindle Fire), where you had to hold them for twenty seconds or more.

Second, it's not a good idea to let the kind of battery in a Kindle Fire run out completely. It should typically be charged in "the middle half"...not the first quarter, not the last quarter.

Finally, you never have to wait when you have a problem with a Kindle. You can always contact Kindle Support at

You'll see a

Contact Us

button. If it's a problem like you were having, I would call them or have them call you, so you don't have to wait.

My Kindle Fire is Frozen completely. I cannot shut it down even, because the button will not even stay on for any longer than 4 seconds. meaning the green light on the on/off button. But...Kindle Fire just FROZEN. Plugged it now into USB port on my computer. Orange light is on ..but, nothing happening still. What can I do. This was a xmas gift from my Grandmother...who is now deceased. I have no receipt ! I'm lost as to what to do. Please help. It's never done this before.

To reboot it hold the power button down for thirty seconds. Then release and try turning it on again.

As I stated in my post. I have tried this and it won't turn off either. It still reads 7:05am. I've even tried just letting it (Battery) run down. Not happening either. This is strange. I love my Kindle Fire. If anyone knows how or what to do please help !! Thank You.
I have tried holding down the power button...the green light goes off after 3 seconds ...but the Kindle Fire is Still FROZEN.

Jeffrey, Thanks for your advice. This thing is still totally frozen. It has always worked perfect until this morning. I have no Idea what could of happened. Thanks again. I really do appreciate your advice anyway.

You have to disconnect it from the computer before you do the reboot. Why don't you contact Kindle customer service and have them troubleshoot?

My mum has an iPhone and the same method above works. Just Hold the power button down. When the phone reboots it should work properly again. The app on my phone (samsung) freezes a lot, and also doesn't always sync correctly. On mine I hold the Menu button down and it opens the task manager, so there might be a quicker way than rebooting the phone.
