Help. I just got my Kindle Fire today around 11:00 am. It's now 6:00 and I've had my Kindle freeze on me 10 different times. That just seems excessive. Just wondering if it's just mine or if it's all Kindles.

Press the button for 20 seconds.

Yep. I've done that and it shuts it off, I turn it back on, and 5 minutes later it freezes again! Just slightly annoying when I'm in the middle of something and have to keep turning it off. Thanks though.

Any coincidental occurrences?
Only happens when streaming...
Only happens when checking email.
Anything like that?
Or is it just at seemingly random times?

Just got my Kindle Fire. It powered on fine, found my wireless, found my account, and then automatically started the update and then promptly froze up (hung at the Kindle Fire screen). It was on the charger and had a good wireless signal. The Windows 7 computer does not recognize the device so there is no way to update it by USB. Looks like a return. Note, my older Kindle works fine on my WiFi so that's not it.

Will the Kindle Fire be the torpedo that brings down Amazon ship? I can see this turning into a Christmas disaster.

Mine freezes up all the time too. Seems to be random. Very disappointing. Telling everyone I know to stay away from buying one these until they get this fixed.

Problem is Ron not all Fires are locking up. Mine never have.

From all the posts listed here the last few days it looks like a lot of them are. You must be lucky and got a good one.

Actually people with problems are more apt to post because they have problems. Those of us not having issues aren't posting. So its not an accurate barometer.

Thank you

Call customer service and ask for an exchange. As millions of people have purchased a Fire and maybe 20 have posted here about freezes, its hardly an indication of a widespread failure.

Mine came with a screen defect and I received the replacement yesterday. I haven't seen any other complaint here about the same defect. In fact, the shipping box was slightly crushed - it may have been shipping damage.

Sure I was disappointed, but I've been around electronics long enough to know that every product line is going to have defects. Its impossible to avoid them even under 5 Sigma standards (thats the defect error rate as a percentage of units)

Mine started flipping out a bit last night (apps started freezing up then disappearing from the menu), then the power turned up, then it wouldn't reboot. Now I can't get it to charge.

One week of joy is all I get? What to do?

Mine has been frozen for 8 hours and I can not do a thing with it.

Mine is going back. I love the User interface but cannot tolerate the temperamental browser behavior. Too bad. It is a superior reader but I really need browser functionality. Wonder if this problem can be addressed through a firmware update.

I think there is an app that conflicts. My theory is that either Touchdown or Extended Email is causing it trying to check email when fire is sleeping. Just removed touchdown, will see.

Not touchdown. Ha. Still will see.

I bought the Kindel Fire on 11/15 when it came out for my daughter fr her birthday. On the 6th day it froze up. We took it back to exchange for another and it froze up on the 3rd day. She was extremely disappointed because she has been wanting a Kindel for years now. We took the second one back today for a refund. Not sure what we will get yet.

Ulonda, why didn't you reboot the Fire and see if that cleared up the trouble?

Posted on Dec 3, 2011 6:52:35 PM PST
Rebooting did the job...until it froze again....and again.

Once I did the update, mine has been fine. The update took forever, but it's been smooth since.

disable wifi and see if the freezing goes away. Mine freezes *extremely* frequently if I have wifi enabled for some reason. If I disable it the kf never freezes. Very frustrating!

I'll buy the Fire back when I'm convinced the problem has been solved.

same here. froze since day one haven't returned it yet very disappointed

Your Fire has been frozen since day one? Holding the power button for 30 seconds didn't reboot it? Are you just going to keep it for a $200 paperweight?
