A ton of my apps are now coming up with this error message on my Fire: Amazon Appstore: Unknown Error. An error occurred. Please download this app again from the Amazon Appstore. Do I really have to do this and if so, why? This is time consuming and irritating.

I mean have you tried restarting the Fire?

Yes. I have shut it down and started it back up more than once.

Amy - Try resetting your Apps. On your Home page:
* Settings (gear icon) > More...> Applications
* Set filter to "All Applications"
* Swipe down to "Appstore"
* "Clear Data"
Now wait a minute while the Fire finds its apps again (no need to be online). All apps will reappear. None of your apps will be lost doing this.

When it's done finding the apps, shut down & restart the Fire. Then go online and sync it. Then scroll through the app shelves and let it find all of the icons for display.

Pineapple,
It didn't work. Now the icons on my carousel are fuzzy and I either get the same message I got before or I get a new one now saying Amazon Appstore Internal Error. Try relaunching. I'm assuming that just means hit the icon again to start it, which I did, and it didn't work.
And I still can't get to the App Store through the Kindle.

Amy - Try rebooting your Fire. If that doesn't work, contact customer service.

TO REBOOT YOUR KINDLE FIRE:
Make sure it's fully charged. Unplug the Fire.
Hold the power button in for 30 seconds (count them).
It should then reboot. The "kindle fire" screen will
appear for a couple of minutes while it's coming back on.

TO CONTACT KINDLE CUSTOMER SERVICE:
Click on this link and fill in the information. https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/contact-us/kindle-help.html/?nodeId=200127470
You may have to sign in. I would recommend you use the PHONE or CHAT options instead of e-Mail.
CALL ME under the PHONE tab is great if available.
They will call you within minutes.

My daughters was doing the same thing on most all of her apps. I noticed her date/time was wrong and had been reset to Jan 1 somehow. I fixed it and her error went away.

I had the same problem however it was due to my date/time being set to 1999. It causes problems with the SSL certs that are used.

lmfao fan up in here - Are you certain that you're connected to the internet? Can you surf the web? If yes, have you tried rebooting your Fire:

To reset/reboot your Kindle Fire:
- With the Fire charged but unplugged from the charger, press and hold the power button for a full 30 seconds.
- When the Fire cycles off completely, press the power button once to turn it back on.

Suzanne Patton, thank you so much! My Fire was doing this exact thing all morning and I didn't even notice that the time and date had reset itself. I fixed it and voila--everything instantly started working again! You're a lifesaver!
