Immersion Reading for FreeTime

I've downloaded audiobooks from to correspond with some book titles I'm reading to my kids. Ive added the books to my kids' FreeTime accounts but I cant figure out how to allow to activate the immersion reading. It seems like such a good tool to help kids to improve their reading skills, I cant imagine that there isnt a way to make that feature available to my kids.

Oops! I discovered I had inadvertently removed the audiobook from my device. Once I reinstalled it, it worked beautifully on FreeTime as well. Good work Amazon! Now if I could have the option to put the kids' available apps in user-defined groups to set time limits for an individual app or group of apps not just to limit apps in general... I may allow 30 minutes per day for a set of mindless games but give a longer time allotment to a grouping of more educational games, for example.

My son was reading the hunger games but when I gave him free time profile, the audio part no longer showed. I wonder if there is a bug that removes the audio book when using free time? I am afraid to try it again?

I noticed the audio book was no longer on my device. When I downloaded it again, it was available to him automatically on FreeTime, since I had selected the book title as accessible.

Amazon should really add the immersion Reading function to all the other platform apps. They would still be getting the dual format purchase, and the benefit to children learning to read is significant. I end up buying the individual book apps in the Google Play store to have this capability for daughter. I would be happy to buy more amazon/audible bundles, but can't use the Kindle Fire HD with all the other apps I need to run on Android and in Windows 8. I am posting this in a few relevant places in the hope that it will catch the attention of someone at Amazon.

Mine will not work in free time, and the kindle rep I just called at Amazon says this isn't possible. How did y'all get it to work?

Bump! I'm having the same issue on Kindle Fire HD 2013. Immersion reading works on I
IT, but not within Free time. How do we open a bug with Amazon?

I just purchased the Kindle Fire for my dyslexic daughter and am disappointed that the immersion reader doesn't work in FreeTime. I want to use the controls that FreeTime allows, playing only after reading for a specific time, but need her to be able to use the immersion reader since she cannot read otherwise. Is this something that used to work, but doesn't anymore? If so, it isn't serving those of us who need this feature the most.

I'm having the same problem. I hope this is a high priority for Amazon since kids are the people who need to use immersion reading!

Bumping again! I've triple checked that the books I've added to FreeTime have the corresponding audiobook downloaded. Still no play button when the book is opened in FreeTime!

You're bumping it to *other customers*. Have you talked to Amazon about this?

Posted on Oct 13, 2014 8:18:51 AM PDT
Yes, and no answer. Was hoping *other customers* might be able to share the benefit of their experience. Isn't that the point of this *customer discussion* forum?

I cannot add the audiobooks to freetime. Can you please explain how you did it. When I go to Manage Content the audiobooks option is not there.

You have to download the book and the audio to the Kindle fire outside freetime and then add the book title to the child's freetime profile. After that, your child should be able to listen and read that title in Kindle Freetime.

I "delivered" both book and audio to Kindle, then added to freetime, but still no play button. Has anyone else been able to get it to work?

This does not work.

You cannot access the audio in freetime as read-along immersion nor as stand-alone audiobook. I've spent hours pursuing this with Kindle tech support, and even they were flummoxed by this. It is a huge oversight on Amazon's part, if you ask me. I have been hoping for an update to the software, but no word yet. If anyone does know of an update or workaround please pass it on.

I just bought this kindle fire for my dyslexic daughter to be able to listen and see highlighting at same time. I am shocked this doesn't work in Freetime...the whole reason I bought this device! I can' t even get the audio book I purchased to show up in Freetime. The audio book and highlighting works well on my profile, but I am not the one who needs it! Any ideas. This is a huge oversight. So frustrating!!!

I'm disappointed by Amazon's lack of response to this thread. Clearly a lot of us bought the immersion reader hoping to help our LD kids. But no response?

This is an unmoderated customer only forum. Amazon employees almost never come here, so they aren't likely to read or respond to anything here. If you want to discuss something with them, you either need to contact customer service through the help link, or let them know what issues you have through their feedback links.
