You can set up a password on Kindles. It's under Settings.

Just Peachy says:
Are you talking about entering a password for a wifi connection or locking your Kindle so no one else can read it?

You can put a password on the Kindle Keyboard so that each time you wake it up you have to enter the password.

I am having the same problem. I cannot get my new Kindle to take my password. Can you bypass this some how?

Malachi says:
The password option works on mine.

You'll have to give us more information before we can help you. Which Kindle do you have? How are you trying to set it?

The Kindle I just tested is the new, little Kindle.

I have the new little Kindle. I have tried every way that is suggested and still cannot get the WIFI on.

Ok, that's a different issue. It's the wi-fi network password, not a Kindle password.

Malachi says:
My reply above was to the original post, who I thought was asking about password protecting his Kindle, but I'm not sure.

Barbara, can you go into some detail of what you are doing to try and connect? When you select 'view' Wi-Fi networks, does it show your router?

AmeliaAT says:
Do you see your wifi network listed and it just won't connect and take the password? Or is it not detecting your network?

" If you want to make sure that only authorized users will have access to your Kindle, you can set a password on the Settings screen. You'll then need to enter the password to access your Kindle if it enters sleep mode or is turned off.
To set your Kindle password:
1. Navigate to Kindle's Home screen and press the Menu button.
2. Select "Settings" from the Home screen menu.
3. Select the "turn on" option next to Device Password on the Settings page.
4. Enter your new password twice and also enter a hint to help you remember the password.
5. Select "Submit" when you're finished.
If you wish to change or turn off your password in the future, navigate to the Settings menu again and select the available options. "
