Kindle Fire HD won't charge?!

I got a kindle fire HD for Christmas and it's worked just fine. Until now, it stopped charging correctly one night (the "you have 15% charge left" kept popping up every 5 seconds and it wouldn't charge) I got a new USB cord and it seemed okay but now its started doing the same thing. It will charge sometimes but if I touch it, it will stop. Any suggestions? I think I'm still under warranty and if I am do I just send the charger and the kindle fire hd back?

are you charging from a usb or from a wall plug?

I've been having the same trouble. I charge my fire and within a few hours the charge is gone -- without me even using it. I have used a wall plug since I bought the fire in November. Does the usb charge work better and hold the charge??

no, it doesn't

are you turning off your wifi when you don't need it and when you're charging?

Call Amazon and tell them what it is doing. I got my Fire HD in Nov. and bought the extra charger. Never had a problem until two nights ago when I opened the case and it didn't go on. I plugged it in to charge and it just showed a battery symbol with a red bar, left it to charge overnight and it still wouldn't go on. I looked up Troubleshooting and it said to do what I had already been doing, trying to get it to reset by holding the off/on button for 20 seconds. I called Amazon and the agent led me through trying to reset it again but it still wouldn't turn on. She said she had not heard of a Kindle Fire HD doing this at all. Maybe there is trouble with the batteries now that they have been out for 6 months? They sent me a replacement and a mailing label for UPS to return the defective unit. I was shocked that it suddenly stopped working but am very happy that I was able to receive a replacement so quickly and hassle free with the 1 year warranty from my original purchase. You would be covered so call them and see if they have other suggestions for you. Good luck!

I always leave my wifi on. It has not been a problem in the past five months.

I've tried several cords and none of them keep the charge on the fire.

I'll problem try to contact amazontonight.

Thanks for your help!!

Same exact problem with mine. I got mine for Christmas and last week it started this mess. I picked it up one morning and just got the red battery icon. I know I had plenty of battery before I went to bed. I tried exchanging it today and Best Buy wouldn't let me. It's really frustrating.

Contact Amazon first. They will give you support and if that doesn't work, they will issue you a UPS shipping label to return it and then probably send you a replacement.

LeoX says:
If it is a battery reset problem then hold the power button down for 60 seconds, ignoring the "do you want to shut down" message" if it pops up. That takes care of "sync" problems where the battery actually has power but the Kindle "thinks" there is low battery.

Sadly, if that does not work the problem is probably the charging / micro USB port. They are fragile on the Kindle and there is no "service" available for local fixes -- have to send back to Amazon...

Same problem here! Went to charge my Kindle fire HD over night. Next morning (today) it never turned back on. I have 3 different chargers. One with the USB and 2 are just regular plug ins. I will contact Amazon but curious, is there a way to NOT turn in the Kindle to get a replacement?? I just don't feel comfortable to return my Kindle with all my info and other junk on there. Since I can't turn it on, there is no way to reset it or erase all my info. Or is there a way??? Sorry, just can't trust anyone these days.

I didn't even think of that. I had the same issue this morning but now its back up. If it happens again, I agree that I would NOT want to hand it over with all the information I have on it.

there is an option on all the kindles to "reset to factory defaults". doing this will erase all personal info. it sets the kindle to just like when it came out of the box.

My Kindle Fire quit today too! Since it was a Christmas gift it should still be under warranty even though i don't have a receipt. I appreciate comments and will contact Amazon.

Any suggestion for a Kindle Fire that wont charge and is outside the warranty period. I received it Christmas of 2011. Called customer support all they suggested was buy a new kindle. I asked about a battery and he refused to even discuss. Can you replace the battery in the kindle fire? Any assistance would be great.

how do I get contacts, etc. off kindle that won't charge?

Posted on Jun 15, 2013 9:34:22 AM PDT
Mine won't charge at all. It literally stays on the battery with the red bar. sometimes it will turn on but it wont keep the charge long enough to sustain usage. what do i do?

Why is Amazon failing to address this problem directly in the forum here? Clearly a LOT of people are experiencing this!
