I've had my Kindle Fire HD since launch and has not been giving me trouble till now. It was smooth until the last update, which made my Kindle slow to respond (at times freezes when launching an app, even like Mail). I do have some 3rd party apps like Dolphin browser and Chrome, but I had them installed before and they've been fine.

Clicking on letters is slow to respond, apps, like mail, books, etc, are slow to come up and even trying to move on place to another is a bit rough at times.

I'm just curious if anybody else is having problems with their Kindle as well or if I should try another method to make it smoother. If not, I may want to exchange it for a newer one.

Just got the new Kindle Fire HD. took a few tries to register but then I tried to set up the email. Before I got to the bottom of the page the Kindle changed my ports and dropped passwords. I finally got it loaded and tested. Seemed OK. But the messages in the Inbox disappeared. Sometimes when you tapped inbox, sometimes when you opened it up. I open the email program, the screen pops up with the inbox and there are four messages and then they disappear. Reloaded the account, factory reset, online assistance, phone calls, 8 hours of troubleshooting, messages disappear. One more thing is going to disappear, the Kindle. Taking it back today.Wonder if I can get a refund on my eight hours.

I'm having the exact same issue. Very frustrating.

My fire hd has slowed dramatically since patch 7.2.3 (with no other changes to my device).
Hopefully Amazon will get this sorted out.

I was having issues with mine being very slow and discovered as soon as I deleted some content (i.e. I had downloaded the HD version of an entire television show season so I deleted an episode which freed up nearly 2 gigs) I was back in business. Even though I still had 2 or 3 gigs left my Fire HD didn't like it.

I think it ought to be able to handle the content! That's the whole point of this device! But, I did think of it too, F. Griffith.

l am experiencing the same slowness and having applications, especially mail, freeze. My Kindle Fire HD is now slower than my original fire. I hope a fix is on the way.

Same problem and apps are just timing out or nothing happens. My kindle is not even a week old! It was fine until this afternoon.

Delete any and all crapware and adware.

Reboot your Fire by turning it off and unplugging it from power, then pressing and holding the power button for a full twenty seconds. Then power on.

I am having similar problems with my Kindle Fire HD - very slow to start, sometimes looks like it has turned off (black screen) but it hasn't, books open and then close, and just today, all my books disappeared. I have removed any apps I don't use. I typically buy the paid version of most apps to get rid of the ads but I still have a few ad driven apps. My wife has the Kindle Fire and by comparison her's is like lightening - no problems using pretty much the same apps and book library.

I am going to try the hard boot. Thank you to whoever made the recommendation and hope it works.

Mine continues to be slow and randomly freezes. Very disappointed. And I don't have any "crapware" as one poster put it.

Same problem since last update. All my apps work except the ones that came with the kindle (appstore, browser, video player and especially email) Customer service was not helpful. Really pissing off.

I have three Kindles. The sluggish Fire HD 7" may be my last.

Mine too...slowed down since the last update. I replaced it with another kindle fire hd and it is also slow. I get the black screen of death and when I scroll down to read somethng I get the checkered screen until it downloads and it takes forever. I have no idea what to do. I have a lot of space left on my Kindle hd, so I know that's not it.

Amazon.com...are you listening?? :) We are a family with 5 kindles, 6 if you count my daughters which is on her own account. VERY disappointing to have this kind of thing on what is supposed to be their top of the line hardware.

If you want Amazon to listen, you should probably contact customer service. We're just Amazon customers here. Amazon may or may not ever read your message here.

I've had the Kindle Fire HD 7" since launch and I can say that launch day was great. Now, yeah, it's slow and freezes. I even had it reset on me several times. Music takes forever to load and even flipping pages is a task. Even though it doesn't do anything, I did delete some random data usage, but of course like I said, that did nothing. I really hope the next update (which seem to come every three years) will not only fix the sluggish, but make it smooth and fast.
