reading in sunlight?

Can you read from a kindle fire hdx in sunlight?

Not very well. LCD backlit screens aren't good for outdoor use. One of the e-ink models, the Basic or the Paperwhite would be a much better device for that use.

The Fire is a decent reader in the right circumstances but only just that. It's too heavy to be comfortable holding it up for long sessions. It's backlight is a light shining right into your eyes, promoting eyestrain. It's basically an indoor device. It's great for videos and games and other tablet functions but as an ereader it's only just okay.

The Paperwhite is moderately useless for anything but reading and nearly perfect for reading in any situation.
