Before you post to this thread, please read this:

This thread is to post discounts and price drops that readers find for books from publishers.

This thread is NOT a book promotion thread for authors or for posting about indies. It is also NOT a thread for freebies, the exception being the occasional free books from traditional publishers.

I don't know if the book is any good, but the movie version of Hopscotch (Walter Matthau and Glenda Jackson) was absolutely hysterical and I still enjoy re-watching it. I'd love to read the book but not $7.99 worth.

Hachette Book Group:

Price match on B&N's 06/22 Daily Find

WAR by Sebastian Junger for $2.99 (down from $9.99)

*Starred Review* from Publishers Weekly. War is insanely exciting.... Don't underestimate the power of that revelation, warns bestselling author Junger. His on-the-ground account, the basis for the award-winning documentary film, Restrepo, follows a single platoon through a 15-month tour of duty in the most dangerous outpost in Afghanistan's Korengal Valley. Some of us lucked out and picked up The Perfect Storm for $0.13 on Mother's Day 2011 when there were pricing errors on many titles.

Whoever committed the crimes wanted this boy to die: he's suffered more than one hundred knife wounds and lapsed into a state of shock. Desperate for information, Linna sees only one option: hypnotism. He enlists Dr. Erik Maria Bark to mesmerize the boy, hoping to discover the killer through his eyes.

An ereader notification on a book for Christmas reading....

Unfinished Gift, The: A Novel originally 12.99, was 8.83, then 5.79, now 2.99
Patrick Collins is seven years old, and on his Christmas list are only three items. He wants the army to find his father. He wants to leave his grandfather's house. And, for reasons even he doesn't understand, he wants the soldier that's tucked away in his grandfather's attic. Set at Christmastime in 1943, The Unfinished Gift tells in an engaging, simple style the story of a family, and reminds us of the surprising things that affect powerful change in our hearts--like a young boy's prayers, a shoebox full of love letters, and even an old wooden soldier, long forgotten. This nostalgic story of forgiveness will engage readers everywhere.

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead is actually 4.95 in the US. This is a great play, but 4.95 is still too steep for me, since i have it in paper.

To show how dated and old I am, I saw Robert Vaughn (of Man from U.N.C.L.E. fame) in "The Real Inspector Hound" and "After Magritte" in Washington DC sometime in the 70s. He was great and that play, IMHO, was even better.

The Real Inspector Hound and Other Plays (Tom Stoppard)

Street Without Joy: The French Debacle In Indochina (Stackpole Military History Series) by Bernard B Fall
Digital Price: 21.95 Kindle Price: Free

When I mentioned this book to my hubby, a history buff, he was very excited, especially when I told him it's now free. Not to my taste but he says it's a classic and a 'must read'. Given his reaction I thought I should share.

Publication Date: November 30, 1964
Originally published in 1961, before the United States escalated its involvement in South Vietnam, Street without Joy offered a clear warning about what American forces would face in the jungles of Southeast Asia: a costly and protracted revolutionary war fought without fronts against a mobile enemy. In harrowing detail, Fall describes the brutality and frustrations of the Indochina War, the savage eight-year conflict-ending in 1954 after the fall of Dien Bien Phu-in which French forces suffered a staggering defeat at the hands of Communist-led Vietnamese nationalists. With its frontline perspective, vivid reporting, and careful analysis, Street without Joy was required reading for policymakers in Washington and GIs in the field and is now considered a classic.
