My daughter has a 2nd gen Kindle Fire that had this problem last night. I was able to get it working by clearing the cashe and then doing a force stop and clearing the data. I then did a 30 second reset. When it was restarted everything was working again.

Ran into the same issue over a couple of days...have 2 Kindle Fire HDXs. Both ended up not being able to play youtube vids no matter what combination I tried. Pretty much every combo listed in this thread DOES NOT WORK. Ended up having to side load Dolphin (v11), and have no issue watching youtube via that browser. I also side loaded the actual YouTube app...very nice only you can't log into it. Lastly, (3rd option) I side loaded Adobe Flash which work with Dolphin...and that works great. Keep in mind v10 of Dolphin had some quirks...v11 seems to work great.

There is a nice youtube video that show how to side load all the apps that I listed in my previous comment. Look for 1 mobile dot com. The video is centered around the Kindle Fire HDX. You will have to go to a device that let's you watch youtube to figure out the steps.
