I'm wondering how to delete books from my Kindle Paper White. I deleted them from my Amazon account, but they are still showing up on my Kindle and on my iPhone Kindle app. Is there a trick to this?

If you deleted them from your account, then they will disappear from your devices the next time you synch them. Then they will be permanently gone.
You can also just delete them from the device, and they will still be on your account and you could re-download them later if you wished.
Have you read the Users Guide that came pre-installed on your new Kindle? I hope you haven't deleted that!

How do I synch? I am having the same problem. I delete old books here, but they still show up on my kindle screen. my users guide doesn't mention "synching."

No, I haven't deleted the users I just wanted a quick answer before searching through it. How do I sync my devices?

Well, I don't have a paperwhite, but on my other kindle versions, while on the homepage, hit the menu button. One of your choices will be "synch and check for new items" or some such. Choose that, while the wireless is on.

Yup it is the same on the Paperwhite. Touch the 3 bars to access the menu then touch the Sync and Check for Items, 5th option on the list.

To delete a book from the Paperwhite:
1) From Home, tap and hold the title of the Kindle content you want to delete.
2) Select Remove from Device.

I found the Paperwhite troubleshooting page very helpful for this and other questions:

Bixillarla says:
When you sync, it connects to the Amazon server and checks for any new items needing downloading and updating your book list.

If you delete the book from the Manage Your Kindle page when you do the sync it will removed those titles from your archive list on the Kindle.

When I delete a book from Device, it sends it to Cloud side. So, I went to "Your kindle library" at Amazon and deleted it. The title still shows on Cloud section, but now I can't load it and tells me to either purchase or cancel. How can I completely get rid of the title?

Aha, this worked! Deleted title in my cloud section disappeared when I chose "Sync and Check for New Items". Thanks. :)

I too didn't know how to do this and had several items that I wanted to delete off of my Kindle Paperwhite!

I have a book that I press and hold the image and then press "REMOVE FROM DEVICE" The dialog flashes briefly, but the book is not removed. It has been removed from the cloud (via the Amazon website), but I can't get it off the device. I receive a newspaper daily and the device syncs to get the paper, so yes, I have re-synced. Any clues?

Another way to delete books from your kindle is:
plug your Kindle into your computer,
then open the *documents* folder;
find the title(s) of the book(s) you want to delete
and just delete them via your computer.

I have deleted the books on my Amazon Kindle account but when I pressed synch on the device the books were not gone. From HOME, tapping on the book and holding worked fine, it gave me the choice to delete the book.

You have to delete from your kindle, then also delete it from your amazon account, and then synch on your kindle to have it completely gone. If you delete from your kindle but not from your amazon account, you can always download it again.

From the menu screen, press on the book icon and hold it until a menu pops up. Remove from device is the bottom option.

Why would you want to delete books from your account? You don't have to read them again or see them on your devices. If you've paid for them and they don't take up any space, why get rid of them from the cloud?

I use my Paperwhite for reading library books. After you "return" a library book it stays on your account, cluttering the screen, until you delete it.

I'm having the same issue with my Kindle app on my Galaxy Tab tablet. Nothing I do makes a title go away, even if I've deleted it on the cloud.

On the Kindle papaer white, just press on the book you want to eliminate for a few seconds, then a menu will display, there are several options to choose from, one of them is "Erase from Device" and just click on it :)
