Kindle Fire: Keyboard issues

Upon opening my Kindle Fire for the first time I've been having issues with the keyboard. I began by attempting to login to WiFi, but each time I TRY to type the password in the keyboard will either close/reopen OR kick me to the home screen.

It doesn't happen on a particular character that I type in. It's completely random.

So, I restored the Kindle Fire to factory settings and an update pushed through. I thought it would fix the problem, but it did not.

I was able to register my Kindle and get connected to WiFi, but I'm having this issue with any app that requires input from the keyboard. It's frustrating and I'm ready to return it.

Anyone else having this issue?

Any chance you're holding it by the lower right corner where the keyboard close button is? If not, then odds are you have a bad digitizer and need to call customer support about a replacement.

This has my vote. If you are not familiar with virtual keyboards, it is easy to put your fingers in the wrong place, triggering seemingly random actions.

I'm a little concerned about that issue. When I've played with tablets in the store, I really struggle to know what to do. Our cell phones have, gasp, buttons. ;)

Being able to really sit down with the Fire and use it will help a lot, I'm sure.

It doesn't take long to master a virtual keyboard on a tablet. The keys are bigger than a cell phone, so your aim can be off without hitting ;; instead of LL. You aren't going to crack 60 wpm, but e-mails and notes will be a breeze compared to the Kindle Keyboards of old. Trust me, if my fat digits can type on a cell phone with (relatively) minimal mistakes, then a tablet won't be too hard for you. You just have to get used to it.

I'm actually having the exact same problem. My wireless password is short, so I got through that with much struggling, but when I open the web browser, pull up the google page, I touch the search field to type in the box, then set my kindle on the table, and stare at it. It will jump to where you type in a web address, and then the cursor will randomly jump around that web address. Going to be calling customer support tomorrow.

When I type on the keyboard, it jumps to other letters/numbers and not the one I pressed. I have small fingers and know I am pressing the correct keys. I have rebooted (the 20sec method) and still screws up.

OMG.....all night I had trouble ivebeen; on the phone and comp. they said nobody else has called or seems to be having ttrouble come to find out 10 later Im talkingto Bermuda or Jamaica Amazon. You cannot not imagine...I cant speak havve to use device. This is the number they said goes to US mainland amazon877 453 4512

they sentout an unannounced update last night I just found out im NOT the only onethat had trouble. They said nobody else has called or notified them...contact them and make sure you havea stateside amazon connection afteer 10 hours I found out I was talking to some Islanders the number they gave me is 877 453 4512

Apparently its not just me who called about it last night. They sent out an un announced update. It messed me up soooooo bad then they had unload reload app 3 or 4 times I can't go on telling you all they hadme do now Im finding out almost a full day later ....it wasn't just me CALL THEM UP OR TEXT AND LET THEM HAVE IT..heres the number they gave me for a stateside amazon 877 453 4512. What made itsooo bad I cant talk and I had to use a speaking device and type and try to talk etc then to top it ALL OFF ONE OF THE IDIOTS HUNG UP ON ME BECAUSE HE EITHER THOUGHT I WAS A COMPUTER CALLING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT OR I DON'T KNOW. Now that I know it wasn't just me Im gonna give it another try

I am unable to post a comment on facebook. This is just a recent problem. The keyboard comes up and the letters pop up when i touch them but nothing goes into the comment box. Then I am unable to get the keyboard to go away.
