They have not said one way or the other if they ever plan to update it. I am guessing that they won't.

I reluctantly agree with Laura -- I'm not holding my breath on that one. :0/

(Not, mind you, that you're not awesome and stuff, just that I wish we were wrong.)

I'm very surprised that they aren't haven't done anything with the first generation kindle fire. Amazon has stellar customer service, and when they update their products, they include features customers are asking for. My only thought is they don't want to update the kindle fire, and loose the flash support the first generation fire has.
I am not knocking Amazon or the kindle fire. Amazon is amazing company, and, in my opinion, created a new market for affortable 7 inch tablets. I just hope/wish they aren't forgetting about us loyal customers who purchased Amazons first tablet

I have not heard anything either. I am sure Amazon is going to focus on the Kindle Fire HD for some time before they are going to update the 1st gen Fire.

They do not normally update a older model when the new one comes out.

The K3 got updates that the K2 did not and the K2 got updates the K1 did not.

When the new model comes out and they stop selling the older model they usually do not have anymore updates for it.

Well, the 1st Gen Kindle Fire still does everything it was advertised to do. Also, since it's running a forked version of Android, updating it is probably much more complicated than it would seem. I would not buy a device assuming that the manufacturer is going to continually update it. New models are released with better hardware, new features, etc... and it's not always possible to make those improvements backward compatible with older devices.

My hubby is enjoying my 1st Gen. He still doesn't know 1/2 of what it can do. He's just reading books.
