Brian says:
When I use the browser on my kindle fire, I always close the tabs after I am done using it. Sometimes when I reopen the browser, 8 tabs are open from web pages that I clicked out of hours ago.

How do I stop this from happening?

I have a similar issue to you. I also have the icon in the carousel instead of being the most recent page, will arbitrarily flash (sometimes) between different pages in my history. So I am no help, but if nothing else, its not just you.

Same here and it's very annoying. You have to completely clear your cache and history to get it to stop. Sometimes I'm not sure if even that helps. I've sometimes resorted to going to Settings>Applications>All Applications and clearing data from the Browser app but this also deletes any favorites or other data you have saved in the browser.

Web/Menu/Settings/
Clear Cache
Clear History

Voila - they are gone from your carousel and silk opens blank.
But you would have to do this ever time you use it. Or find an app to do it for you.

I on occasion have the same thing occur but usually only one old tab will be there. Doesn't happen all the time though. I also close all tabs before exiting. If it is too bothersome, you might want to contact customer service and if you do, let us know what they say.

Ernie, just saw your post. Thanks for the info!

@Enrie

This isn't really about the carousel. Sometimes even if you have closed tabs and cleared the history the tabs will keep coming back over and over. It's almost like they are set as your homepage. I think for some reason the data isn't getting cleared correctly when you clear history and web data. Again, if clearing cache doesn't work you pretty much have to go to Settings>Applications and clear all data from the browser app to get it to go away.

Last, desperate move - clear cookies. :)

You are entirely missing the point. It's a bug and clearing the data, cookies, history, and etc doesn't always work. You open the browser the tab comes back no matter what you do(beyond what I mentioned above). I'm guessing for some reason the browser isn't clearing all the data when you close the tab and clear ALL of the web history/data.

I am having this problem too. I clear the history and close tabs then when I open the browser again there is a tab withba random page I have visited, sometimes from days ago. I have also had it add bookmarks that I have deleted back into my list.

This needs to be addressed, very annoying bug.

Add me to the list. Been through all the steps. Like "J" says, it's a bug. I even called support. They had me reboot, lol. That worked for about 15 mins.
I ended up side loading "Opera Mobile" , not as nice but at least no phantom tabs! You will have to go to the Opera web site, as it's not available in the market.

Hmmm. Curious if any of this has anything to do with my browser not working all the time. I had to completely shut off my Kindle then turn it back on so it would work again.

Well I closed all my tabs, cleared everything that can be cleared, reset everything that could be reset, sync'd everything that could be sync'd, and..... still haven't gotten rid of the old tabs.

I agree, it seems like it is set as the home page for the browser.

Q says:
How many tabs open when you open the browser? What pages? You close every tab before exiting the browser and it still opens the old tabs when it opens?

M. Tracy says:
Yes. Close all tabs, even clear history and cache. Tabs are random, some from last use others from days ago

I was able to clear my history and watch as the history re-populated itself within seconds of clearing it. After sideloading Opera and not liking it, I decided to try Dolphin Mobile HD. I'm quite pleased with its features and performance.
Make sure to submit this problem through the feedback link from the homepage of your Kindle Fire like "TN" mentioned above.

Sorry, but not a virus. Have reset to defaults, installed nothing, and can replicate the problem with the browser. In fact have done this twice.

Q says:
bc,

When you say you "reset to defaults", are you talking about on the Silk browser or for the *entire* Kindle Fire? Both have that setting.

I'm talking about the *entire* Fire being reset to factory defaults so that you have to reregister it and all books on it are wiped out, not just resetting the defaults on the Silk browser.

Sorry if I'm misunderstanding again. It just sounds like a software glitch that isn't most people's experience, so may lie in some problem in your OS and can be fixed by resetting the entire device and redownloading your books.
