I have 2 kindles. the e-ink, and the 7"Kindle Fire. I am thinking of purchasing the 8.9 HD 4G to be able to use while at school during lectures. Can this new Kindle open Powerpoint documents?

Also, I have had a problem with the Kindle Fire (7") charging port. I had to send it back once because the opening became "loose" and it would not charge anymore. The current one I have is having a similar problem and I have to plug it in a certain way and leave it alone (and hope it charges!) Has anyone had this problem with the new 8.9 HD 4G Kindle?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

The Queen - There are several Office suite type apps in the App Store. If you want to just view Power Point presentations, and not edit them or create them, you can do that with the pre-installed OfficeSuite app.

The defective charger port seems to be an anomaly of the 1st Gen Fires. I haven't seen any complaints about the new Fires.

Here are the three Office type apps I have. I prefer OfficeSuitePro.

OfficeSuite Professional 8
Docs To Go Premium Key
Quickoffice Pro

My KFHD7 has a "light" (read-only) version of one of many "Android Office" apps bundled and can view PPT files. Full versions of those apps, allowing for limiting editing, are typically less than $10.

There were many reported problems with original Fire charging ports. 8.9" Fire has not been available long enough to be certain, but it seems that 7" model of HD does not display that weakness.
