Work 24/7 says:
Does the new Kindle Fire HD come with page numbers for the books or does it come with location like with some of the older Kindle versions?

I'd like to know the answer to this, too.

The best I could find was the video for The Verge's review of the Fire HD. He showed one of the comics and it was locations. But until we can see it showing a book that we know the publisher added pages we won't really know.

According to the Fire HD help pages, which are now online, as long as the book offers page numbers, they will work.

Page Numbers

Kindle book page numbers match the page numbers in print books so you can reference and cite passages, and read alongside others.

If your Kindle book includes page numbers, you'll see page numbers displayed next to locations when you tap the center of the screen.

Not all Kindle books include page numbers. Kindle books that include page numbers will list "Page Numbers Source ISBN (the print book identification number)" for the matching print edition under "Product Details" on the detail page at Amazon.com.

If the Page Numbers Source ISBN (the print book identification number)" listed under "Product Details" on the product detail page is the same edition as your print book, the Kindle page numbers will match the page numbers in the printed edition.

Cool. Thanks. Didn't think they'd have the help pages up so soon.

I have not found this to be completely true. I have books that obviously have the page numbers from the regular book because I can use the"go to" function, put in the page number and it will go to the same place as my classmates using a book. However, when I tap the center of the screen I only get the location with no apparent way to discover the page number that goes with that location,

A. Yeomans says:
This is exactly why Google Books are much better for students working on a paper. This is ridiculous.

What's ridiculous? That you dredged up an almost two year old thread to post this comment?

Kindle books have page numbers if the publishers have included them. And almost all of them do.

This is weird.
I'm trying to figure this out because one time, i was reading the Great Gatsby, and my kindle was only showing locations. Then, I did something, i have no idea what, but I could see page numbers... Now I'm reading a new book and only see location.. ._. Please answer.

Jazzy_Jeff says:
It depends on the book. Not all books are coded with page numbers.
