Books are Missing from my list

I must be doing something wrong because I can't find books that I have already downloaded.

These books are from Netgalley. I've got them on my Kindle now. However, they are no longer appearing on my digital content list.

Any idea about what's going on? Where I can find it? Whether afternoon coffee is needed?

I recommend something stronger than coffee.... its 5pm somewhere. LOL.

Have you seen them before on the device? Are they in the docs area?

In reply to an earlier post on May 30, 2014 10:53:45 AM PDT
Oh, honey. Afternoon coffee is NEVER wrong!

In reply to an earlier post on May 30, 2014 11:01:14 AM PDT
Howdy. I'm in the "Your Content" area. The old downloads are there but more recent ones are gone.

True. I'm making a pot and waiting for Tech support :]

Excellent!

(Darn. Now I want coffee, too.)

Okay, here is the what the 2nd level of Kindle tech told me on the phone:

(I should note that I'm REALLY REALLY PO'd about this) IAC, Amazon has deleted every book that anyone did not purchase from Amazon.

I have a hard time believing this, but I must say that many of my books that were downloaded from Netgalley are permanently gone. Of course, I feel this is an injustice as they did not notify me ahead of time.

We'll see, I suppose, if they tech-guy was in the know, or just guessing.

Were they previously listed as Personal Documents?
I still have my Personal Documents.

I would think he was just guessing or not knowing what he, or you, was talking about. I've never known, or seen Amazon permanently delete anything from a customers account on their own without permission.

Mine are still there, including an item I added about five weeks ago.

So apparently the 2nd level Kindle tech is full of hot air.

PeaTea said: Amazon has deleted every book that anyone did not purchase from Amazon.

That is absolutely not true. I have several hundred books from non-Amazon sources and they are all still on my account. I don't know who told you that or where you got that information, but they are wrong, wrong, wrong.

In reply to an earlier post on May 30, 2014 11:18:03 AM PDT
I agree. I'm reluctant to believe this.

Where are Personal Documents?

(sorry to be so dense)

In reply to an earlier post on May 30, 2014 11:19:18 AM PDT
Somehow that's not surprising.

I used the 'call me' function and Kindle support called me. The first Tech guy couldn't find the books I had downloaded and so he transferred me to a "more" Tech guy --who might have just blown me off.

Documents I sent to my Kindle that I did not buy from Amazon.
For me those are instruction manuals to a couple of things I own.

It's a separate tab on the Fires. Are you working from a PaperWhite? The menu options and locations are different on different models.

In reply to an earlier post on May 30, 2014 11:31:12 AM PDT
Previously these books appeared in my Library and I had the option to transfer them to one of my two kindles.

So I am following you, but it wouldn't appear to be applicable at this point.

In reply to an earlier post on May 30, 2014 11:35:27 AM PDT
I've got a 2nd gen Kindle and Fire, so no tabs.

One of my buddies said her transferred books are still there, so I'm waiting to see if I get another confirmation before I request tech support call me back.

(why?!?!? I just want to read books ;)

Are you looking at the new Manage Your content and Devices page? If so you need too click where is says Books in the upper left and choose Docs.

You know what!!!

It isn't showing in IE, but the books are there in FireFox and Chrome.

A million thanks FoundQuilting and friends. I went to my kid's PC and used a different browser and they are safely there.

Have a wonderful weekend. I can now enjoy my coffee and try to figure out why IE is giving me ulcers.

On the Original Fire, on the Home page, above the carousel, there is a row of choices...one is Docs. That's where personal files went (when I was using it for something more than an alarm clock.)

In reply to an earlier post on May 30, 2014 11:51:49 AM PDT
Oh, do just enjoy the coffee and forego the ulcers!
