To add to this if you have an older router you might want to also check to make sure the firmware is up to date. My router is 6 years old right now but still works great but I have had to update the firmware 3 times over the 6 years. Good luck to you.

I am having the same problem . My router is 3 months old and I do not have a problem with any other wireless device .

My Kindle fire HD just stops communicating with router. Its still connected, just stops responding. The only way to get it to start again, is to reset my router or the kindle. Thgis is very annoying.
I cant believe so many people are having the same problem as me (just google it);
The problem is not with my hardware, you KNOW IT AMAZON, so why do you refuse to accept it?
Would it be because the new superduper wifi antenna (or whatever it is) was one of your selling points against the ipad?
Just fix it!
Annoyed at being lied to and ignored!!!!

@aditup: Why get angry at us? We are other Kindle customers, not from Amazon. None of our 11 Kindles have ever had any problems communicating with our wifi router, and it is about 7 years old.

Have you talked with Amazon Kindle CS? What did they say?

It's the kindle that's the problem, no other wireless device from my iPhone through to a cheap tablet for my nephew, loses the connectivity like my KF HD does, seriously frustrating, I thought amazon were better than this

I keep losing WiFi connection also. So often that it's VERY ANNOYING!! My Kindle fire is new as well as my router. I have reset the router more than once. All the other devices in my home do NOT have this problem! I called my internet provider and they also did a reset on their end to no avail. I have held the off button for 20 seconds and back on. I have downloaded antivirus...not the problem. PLEASE HELP!!

UPDATE: I used the neighbor's wifi for about 3 1/2 hours and guess what??? The Kindle worked just fine! I was very surprised! Didn't lose the connection once. THEN I put it back on my wifi and it keeps losing it's connection again!! I will be giving my internet provider a call first thing in the morning!!! I did call Amazon Kindle support and the lady told me that the Kindles are more sensitive to the connection than laptops or smartphones. Too much variance in the wifi and it can lose connection. May have to change internet providers!

I went into settings, display and turned off sleep mode to never. This is the fastest way to resolve this until Amazon fixes this problem. My iPhone and older Kindles work fine. I also tried rebooting and updating my router's firmware but no success. Hope this helps.

so disappointed in Amazon. This product is sub-standard and they have to know it. I've had several issues. Pages freeze on my books, not having connectivity (no Mayday help there). I will probably return mine and buy an iPad. Amazon is usually better than this.

I have a Kindle 8.9' HDX. I keep losing my wi-fi connection. The router I have is new and one of the best you can buy, Netgear Nighthawk AC1900. None of my other devices lose connection. I cannot get through a 1 hour stream of a TV show without disconnecting more than once.
I have to exit the show, open my wifi settings, click my network. It will show me that my connection is excellent, don't have to disconnect and reconnect. Then I go back into Netflix or Amazon Prime and the show will play for a while longer before disconnecting again.

I have the same problem with my Kindle HDX. I reached their customer care and even got the device replaced, and guess what ? the same issue persists with the new device as well. I regret my decision of buying this device.

I'm having the same problem...loses the wi-fi connection and have to shut off and restart. Sometimes, I have to do that 3-4 times in an hour or so. Very annoying! Is there a fix?

I have a year old Kindle Fire HD and a brand new router (Charter Comm.) and recently started having the same issue. I am having to do the same as the rest of you; power down and turn back on. This will only last for a bit. If I go back to reading and decide to jump on Facebook I have to do it all over again. I had the original KF that had the charger connection issue and now this issue with my new KF DH!!! That's it, no more Kindles. I'll be calling customer service and see what they have to say.

I guess we all need to start bombarding Amazon customer support. I have the same issue and it is infuriating when I am in the middle of a good poker hand.

I have the exact same problems. I have at&t uverse internet phone & cable. We have 4 tablets which include a 2nd gen iPad that I was trying to replace/ upgrading to the newest technologies with the new Kindle fire but my experience has been terribly frustrating. My HD kf lags & tells me silk browser isn't working & closes. Silk browser apparently wasn't ready to be released. I feel like it's an experiment gone awry as a result of being rolled out too early in order to compete with the iPad mini by straight up LYING about their browser it's capabilities are pathetic & it's a big problem that they refuse to admit but I guarantee u they are fully aware of the situation I wish I would have went with the iPad mini. I will never buy another Kindle product unless they address & fix these issues. I can't even watch instant videos on my kf HD because it buffers &lags s o much. Such a shame. The absence of Adobe's flash player is constantly causing issues & this experimental streaming player is a JOKE. However, at least they addressed the issue and it's seeming to improve. The Kindle Fire HD 8.9 is pretty useless to me. My 5yr old plays his games & I have to use his 2 yr old Nabi2 just to browse the web which works just fine on our network, as well as the 2 iPhones, a galaxy s4 phone and tablet & Blackberry playbook. Strange to me that none of the other devices are having trouble with our network. I'm not happy at all & I regret buying this tablet only because of the internet issues & slow browser that was hyped up to be so awesome. I was extremely disappointed.

It just seems to be with the HD kf because my friend's Kindle Fire the 2nd gen, it works fine. His nearly 4 yr old Kindle Fire outperforms my newer HD which was purchased 2 mths before the HDX was released.

Has anyone found a solution? Tried restarting router, tried using static ip address, tried changing sleep settings. Nothing helps. IPhone streams just fine.

In reply to an earlier post on Jul 6, 2014 7:56:14 PM PDT
I have the fastest internet in the area which includes a recently installed and updated router, and I often have to turn off my laptop to get it to connect to the router. I also have to turn off my router once in a while in order to re establish the connection. I think this is something that happens, not a conspiracy of Amazon to personally annoy you. I have noted also that my kindle fire HD occasionally seems to lose the information allowing it to connect to my own wifi, and the password had to be re entered at least once.
