Unfortunately, the brand new book in the Outlander series mentioned above is NOT Whispersyced. I pre-ordered both assuming they would be so likely will return the book. If I have to choose, the audio wins.

We can't even get a proper search function, hello Amazon, I have no intentions of manually scrolling through a thousand books to find the one I want when I know the name and could search for it. BTW - No it does not have the search function that is available on the Windows 8.1 app for the desktops!

I've downloaded the application update (of iOS). I found the new "Audio Companions" link and it looks great.

However, I find that the list of my books for which Audio Companions exist include books for which I already own both the kindle and audio versions. The system seems to think I still need to buy the sudio version for these. (e.g.: A Mighty Fortress by David Weber)

So I guess I'm asking how to link my existing purchases. Thanks

Since the update I am having issues with my app downloading full books. It is downloading the samples just fine but will not download the full verison. I have even deleted all of my already read books to make more room.

Is there anyone else with this problem?

I was curious about this, although I don't really have any plans to use this feature. So I called Audible support and I was very surprised at the answer I got.

It seems, if the support guy was correct, that the new Kindle app doesn't do anything whatever with audiobooks. All it does is help you get the matching audiobook for the Kindle books you already own.

If you want to read the text a while you do that in the Kindle app. If you also have the audiobook and you want to listen a while you do that in the Audible app and it will use Whispersync to pick up where you left off. Then when you go back to the Kindle app it knows where you left off in the Audible app.

Actually none of this is new. The only new thing is that now the Kindle app will help you find matching audiobooks. Well, the other new thing is that now you can synch like this with the Android app. I think before you could only do it on a Kindle with audio.

So the answer, if you want to sync, is to have both apps and have the matching book in each app and now you can go back and forth.

I haven't tried any of this. I'm just repeating what the support technician told me.

Eta - Hitting the Headphone icon doesn't seem to do anything so maybe it is a work in progress.
Eta2- Totally messed up my sync in Dragonfly in Amber (Outlander). The Kindle app listed it as 46% complete while I had noted last night I was at 78%. The Audible app says I am finished. I had no problem syncing between Audible version and that on my Kindles prior to the app update.

This new app is junk....my tablet updates automatically and now I can't find any of my already bought and paid for books in my personal library...have been using the same tablet and app for months and now everything is gone.'..

Your books should all be there. Mine are still there on my iPad. Close the Kindle app and restart the tablet. That often fixes anything that is wrong with an app. If that doesn't work, then talk to Kindle customer service.

Paula, I just did this with the Kindle book of Outlander and its audible version, both of which I bought before ever there was whispersync. First I downloaded the Kindle book of Outlander to the iPad, opened it and took it back to the beginning. On the first page of Outlander (or wherever you want to be in the book), tap the middle of the page. Look up to the top right of the screen and you will see a headphone icon. Tap that and you should see a down arrow in the middle of the screen, among other things. Tap the down arrow and the audiobook will start downloading. For Outlander, this takes awhile since it is a long book, as you know. (There is an x to cancel the download if you change your mind). When the book is ready to play, it will show the cover. Tap the play arrow. If you want to see the text as it narrates, tap the book icon in the upper right. The audio will continue until you pause it (go back to the audio screen). Be sure that you have wi-fi available when you are downloading the audiobook. If it does not work this way for you, perhaps you should call Kindle customer service.

OK, I have a question of my own. Does anyone know how to DELETE the audio version when you are done?

The new Kindle app for Android also wants to keep track of who you call on the phone. I deleted my app.
Amazon tracks enough of my info without having to know who I am talking to.

Thanks. I'm now downloading an audiobook I bought some time ago but just read the Kindle version a few months ago. I just put the Kindle version on my phone and the earphones icon appeared and I clicked that and it gave me a chance to download it.

So yes, the guy I spoke to got it wrong. When will tech support people learn to just say they don't know, when they don't know!

I've been able to listen to the audible book and read the kindle book both from the kindle app. It's working fabulously.
