Try this first. Unplug your charger then hold the power button in for 30 seconds ignoring the shutdown screen. After 30 seconds release the button and press once briefly to restart your device. Allow it to fully reboot and then try your camera again. This should clear up your issue.

There are a couple of free apps in the Kindle Store which make it much easier to bring up the camera. However - don't expect very much. The "HD" camera is only about 2 megapixels, and it's a noisy beast. Whoever said it's POS was pretty close to right

The easiest way to use the camera is to tap photos, then the camera icon. To take a picture tap the shutter icon. A thumbnail will show along the edge of the screen. Tap to end or keep taking pics by tapping the shutter icon.

Well your not offering much information. If you tap photos on the home screen in the page that opens there is a camera icon in the upper right corner. Tap this should activate the camera. To take a picture tap the shutter icon . You will then see a thumbnail picture in the lower corner. Tap it to view the picture you just took. Using the icons in the margin gives you options of what to do with the photo.

You not being able to figure something out and the device being bad are two entirely different things.

How are you trying to use the camera for video.? Are you using a specific app? I've only used it for Skype and its worked properly on numerous calls.

itskeyanna says:
No Skype calls work but it's just that every single app including video recording says can't connect to camera:(

Rogue says:
If you type Kindle Fire Video Camera in the search box of the appstore, the first app that appears is the one I have and it works. You can use it portrait or landscape mode. Open the app and you'll see yourself. Tap the big round button to start recording, tap again to stop. The app is called Kindle Fire Camera Video HD.
