I'm trying to connect my kindle fire to my computer and cannot find the driver

George, you don't need a driver. Close the error window...your Kindle should show up with a Drive letter, just like a thumb drive.

and when I try to open it my system asks me to insert a CD

Close those prompts, there is no driver for the Kindle. You should be able to go to My Computer and see it there, just like you would a thumb drive.

I closed the prompts. When I click on My Computer is see Removable Disk (E). When I click on the icon I receive the message: Please insert a disk into Removable Disk (E:).

Figured it out --- I needed to unlock my kindle to see the files. Thanks folks for your trouble.

Q says:
George,
Are you sure Drive E: isn't your CD-ROM drive?

Also, you need to be sure and wake up your Fire by sliding the yellow bar across the screen. If it is connected to your computer, the Fire should show a black screen with the picture of a USB cable & plug on it.

Does your Fire show that picture? What are you seeing on your Kindle Fire?

George, is your Kindle turned on and not asleep? Try that, and try other USB ports on your computer. Vista is known for being flakky.
