I went to go charge my kindle fire, but every time I plug it in it turns off and won't charge. I've tried rebooting it, leaving it alone for five minutes, and then plugging it back it didn't work. When it is plugged to my wall or computer I can't turn it on, it'll only turn on if it's not plugged up

Is it a Fire gen 1? Is the charging port loose?

Are you sure it's the right charger? I know a lot of chargers are interchangeable, but I have this one cell phone charger at work that if I plug the Fire into it, I can't operate the Fire.

Other chargers, I can charge it while operating it, but not that *one* charger. Are you using a charger specifically for the Fire?

The 1st gens did have a batch of loosening ports, as well.

I have this same problem and wonder what is going on. The charger I am using is the actual charger that came with the Kindle Fire. It does charge it with no problem, it just won't let me turn it on while it is plugged in. I have to unplug it and turn it on and then plug it back in after I have opened the book (or app) I am reading.

I would try contacting customer service. It might be a defective charger or a defective Fire. Either way they should be able to help you figure out what was wrong and whether it could be fixed or should be replaced.
