The lowest price that I've found for the kindle fire hd 7" is $79 on Black Friday. Is Amazon going to beat this in any way? I'm looking to get one for my oldest son and would rather order it from Amazon as I've had two now and have been pleased with their customer service. However, I want to get the best deal at an affordable price. Will Amazon do price matching?

No.

Where'd you find that?

The Staples' Black Friday ad lists a 7-inch "Kindle Fire" for $79, but it does NOT list the "Kindle Fire HD" for $79.

The Best Buy Black Friday ad lists The "Kindle Fire HD" for $99.

I don't believe Amazon will price match to other retailers anymore. Hopefully they will offer a deal on Black Friday.

FWIW (um, $15....): I received an email today from "store-news@amazon.com"
for today [November 14] only!
Buy Kindle Fire HD and Get a Free $15 Amazon.com Gift Card. The offer is good on any of the Kindle Fire HD, i.e., 3G, etc.
I don't know if other people are receiving this email, I see nothing on Amazon's Fire web page. Maybe they are targeting people who have clicked on Kindle Fire product descriptions but haven't yet bought one.
Tempting.....

The Staples ad for the Kindle Fire at $79 isn't the new HD, it's last year's model. They do have a good sale on the HD, however. It's at regular price, $139, but includes a $25 gift certificate.

Here are all the e-reader and tablet sales at Staples:
Fire HD 8.9" 16GB (2012) ($269/$189) ---$169
Fire HDX 7" 16GB ($229/$189) --- $204** after $25 GC
Fire HD 7" 8GB ($139/$99) --- $114** after $25 GC
Fire 7" 2G 8GB (2012) --- $79
Nexus 7.2 16GB ($229/$184) --- $199
Dell Venue Pro 8" 32GB ($330) --- $280
MS Surface RT 10.6" 32GB w/ Key ($400) --- $250
Toshiba Encore 8" 32GB ($330) --- $300
Paperwhite 2 ($119) --- $99** after $20 GC

Also, Best Buy is offering the basic Kindle for $50.

These are all of the Black Friday sales I've found so far for e-readers and tablets.

Keep in mind that the one Best Buy is selling on Black Friday is the last generation model, not the new one.

Aaaaand, CS and the fora will be flooded with people who got "new" Fires, but what they will have gotten is "new-old" Fires.

And it will be all Amazon's fault, and there should be a class action suit for false advertising.

Tha's what I'm sayin', yeah.

I am new to the kindle fire. Are you saying that the "new" one really isn't anything new?

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 14, 2013 11:31:30 AM PST
No, that's not what we're saying at all. The topic of the thread is that brick and mortar stores will be selling LAST year's model THIS year, when the NEW models are ALSO available.

People will be opening Fires, and they'll have questions, and they'll say, "I just got a new Fire!" When, yeah, they got a Fire new TO THEM, but it's really not a NEW Fire, as far as Amazon (and features) are concerned.

The problem is that they gave the 2013 model the same name as one of the 2012 ones.

Amazon makes great devices, but their naming skills leave a lot to be desired.

B. Marks says:
Most companies name electronics badly. They should do it like auto makers do, with a year model, or give each new device a different name.

Amazon should never have called the Fire a Kindle. It's an unrelated device and that has caused a lot of confusion ever since. I'm sure they did it to capitalize on the Kindle name but I think they'd have sold even more of them if they'd been smarter about naming.

An example: a friend bought a Kindle Basic for $69 thinking it was a tablet. She got upset and returned it and now nothing I say will convince her that Amazon didn't use bait and switch on her. Yes, that's just a bit dumb, I agree, but she'd have been a good customer if they didn't have the same name and she got what she really wanted. She could have paid the difference.

I sold my old Kindle Keyboard to someone who works with my sister. Her boss, in fact. This was done passing messages through my sister who knows nothing about Kindles. I gave it to my sister who gave me the money her boss gave her.

I talked to her about a month later and she'd just bought a Kindle Fire, not understanding that there were different kinds of Kindles. I offered to buy it back but she'd already given it to someone.

A number of people in these forums have bought Fires when they wanted Kindle ereaders and were surprised to find they weren't useful at the beach.

Amazon is no worse at this than other companies. They all do this badly. Maybe naming should be handled by designers instead of marketers.

I've gone through this on the facebook sale sites. People keep selling their fires and people tthink they are getting a good buy at 100. I told them it couldn't possibly be a Fire HD, because it came in a brown box, and the new boxes were black, and she said she got it at walmart. Walmart only sold 1st gen fires. I get a lot of angry people telling me to shut up , that I don't know what I'm talking about, but they are clueless.

Does anyone know where to find the amazon black friday sales? I can only seem to find the "leading up to" deals. I'm looking for the Jawbone Jambox mini and the new Kindle Paperwhite.

IMO, the 2012 Fire HD is a better device (for me) that the 2013 model. Camera, Microphone and HDMI out. All things that the 2013 HD model doesn't have.

I second that. I have Skype on my 2012 HD, which I use grudgingly, but I do use it.

Yes... I have talked with folks who have the 2012 HD and bought the 2103 HD thinking that they could use Skype with it. I think Ammy should have just called it the 3rd Gen Kindle Fire, and left off the HD from the name.

I really wish the whole line was called, "Amazon Fire", leaving Kindle out entirely.
