I bought the Kindle Fire one week ago but am having constant shutdowns. I'll be in the middle of reading and a pop up comes up asking me to either shut down or cancel. I choose cancel and it shuts down anyway. The screen turns black and I have to re-start all over again. It happens a lot. Can anyone help me with this?

You may be inadvertently pressing the power button, too. It's far too easy to do while engrossed in reading, like in a recliner, with the thing propped on your stomach ;-) or something like that.

There's a power button at the bottom. If you press it for a quick instant = screen off. If you keep it pressed for a few seconds = that popup you mention asking to shut down or cancel.

Just avoid the power button at the bottom.

I don't recall touching the power button but will definitely pay more attention to it from now on. Thank you

Kindle Fire keeps shutting down. Kindle Fire battery charged over 75%. Keeps shutting down at random times. Since it was reported by my daughter, I thought she was inadvertently depressing the power button. Not the case, it happened to me also.

Do a hard reset by pressing power button for 30 seconds.

Did a reset and appears to be working for now. Unfortunately, some games (i.e. words w friends)won't allow her to flip so that button is on top. If it continues, I'l ship it back. Thanks, I appreciate the help.

Once I put my kindle in a case the power button didn't stick out beyond the case. Now even when I have to use it with the power button faced down it isn't much of an issue.

Called to have new kindle fire sent for replacement. Took 15 min I asked if this was a common problem and was informed that if you have an earlier manufacture date, it is. They supposedly fixed the issue on later releases. I asked why they would knowingly ship a defective product and was informed that the magnitude of the orders ciuld not be halted and they would adress the issue on a case by case basis. Ridiculous. I'll post once replacement arrives. Also, I they wanted to credit me the screen protector instead of sending me new ones. Im assuming so I would have had to pay shipping again. I stood ny ground and they conceded.

@Paulie That's unfortunate. And pretty irritating. I hope your next one works better! I got a fire last week and it hasn't given me one problem.

New Kindle Fire arrived last night. Problem fixed. Does Not shut off phantom. Have to re-use old screen protector until new ones arrive (shipped separately).
