So I upgraded from a 1st gen fire and this HDX is awesome. But the one thing that's bugging me is when browsing I click a link, it opens a new tab as did my old fire, but when I hit back the tab remains open and just goes to the common sites visited list. My old fire would close the tab taking me back to the previous tab where I had clicked the link. Is this by design and I need a just get used to closing the tab instead of hitting back? Thanks.

I've never used the first one, but yes, you do need to hit the X on the tab to close them as far as i know

I really hope they change this, it's more fluid to have back close the tab than to have to know whether you need to hit the x or back.

I'm guessing that maybe they're trying to mimic the PC experience where back doesn't close tabs?

My 2nd gen 8.9 leaves the tab open, too. Has since I got it a year ago.

It makes a lot more sense that you need to hit x to close the tab. That is what every multi-tab browser does so having it work differently was just changing things so they could say "See, we're innovative!"

Yes but other browsers can be set to not open everything in new tabs too... I found back much easier.

I do not understand what the problem is. Having to hit the x to close a tab is not the end of the world. It is one tap and then you are done. It is taking more energy to complain about it than it is to tap the x and close the tab.

If there is no back page the button shouldn't be available. And if I wasn't used to the back button closing tabs it wouldn't be a problem. Most links I open I'm not sure whether or not it's opened a new tab, so it isn't ok to just hit the x. I have to hit back, get to the stupid blank tab screen than hit the x. No browser lets you go back if the tab hasn't been to any other page.

We can't even find the x to click it. How do i close the tab if the x is missing?
