Sounds daft, but I often look at knitting patterns and the like online. I am able to use these doc's on my iPhone, but not on my fire. I can click the links on ravelry (for example) for a pattern and it says downloading, but it never dies anything? Maybe I am missing something simple, like an app, or where to look for these files? Help much appreciated!

You need a PDF reader, and there isn't one built into the Kindles (as far as I know), but that's not a problem. There are a few PDF readers available through the Amazon app store. Check them out using your Kindle. I think some are free. There are other PDF readers available from the Google Play Store if you're willing to sideload them. At least for the Fire HD, there are 2-3 "Office" type programs which allow editing of PDF files you import. There are probably apps which allow creation of PDF files, but I' haven't checked them out.

You're welcome. Of the many choices, you may want to start with the free Adobe Reader. It's excellent, for reading PDFs. Many people on this forum who need to fill in PDF forms, edit them, etc, like Easy PDF Reader. As you can see from the selections in the Amazon Kindle app store, there are dozens of choices. Some of them are pretty complex, and some are not very good. But those two should work well.

Hi Bill, I downloaded an app called replica which allows for highlighting and writing notes on a PDF doc using my kindle fire HD. The problem I am having is then saving those changes. My kindle won't allow me to save changes, which led to me looking my highlights and notes. Do you have any recommendations?

Any books you bought on Amazon for your Kindle will be stored on the Cloud for your account and can be downloaded to your new Kindle if it is registered to the same Amazon account. Just connect to WiFi, register the new one to the account, then under Books select Cloud and download the ones you want. If you bought any books elsewhere, you'll need to re-download them from their source site.

After having my kindle fire for a year and being frustrated at never being able to find things I had downloaded, I have now discovered how to do it! By accident I found that if you go to the home page, click on web, you have a settings button top left. Click this and lo and behold, you have a list, including downloads. I've now found all the stuff I couldn't access for the past year! I had rung Amazon support to ask but the girl I spoke to had no idea! Hope this helps. Good luck.

This is driving me bonkers. When I click on "Web" at the main menu, it just auto-opens the Silk web-browser...and nothing else. Clicking "Web" does nothing but send me the browser. And there's absolutely not a "settings" button anywhere visible there. What on Earth are all of you talking about?

Despite the fact that I've been trying to download pdfs to my Kindle Fire since 2012, it says nothing has been downloaded since 2011. And yes, I've checked the Quickoffice Internal Storage & Downloads files, and while I can FIND evidence of pdfs, it won't let me move them anywhere, read them, or open them, and they NEVER display in the "Docs" of the Kindle Fire.

Sorry to hear that. Is kindle fire or HD? Don't know if it matters but mine isn't the HD. One thing -MAKE SURE YOU CLOSE ANY PAGES YOU HAVE OPEN IN THE BROWSER. then click the home button, then web,the settings button is the 3lines in the top left corner and this should open a drop down menu. I realise you may well be shouting at the kindle by now saying "yes! That's what I did!" But I just wondered if you did it with pages open. Please let me know if you have any success, I'm curious! (Apologies if this message appears twice-my kindle ran out of battery and shut down as I was about to submit it so I typed it again -I don't think the first one went) if you don't get anywhere I'd ring Amazon.

on later Kindle Fires, including the HDs, there are two menus in the browser window (one is settings and the other one holds the downloads folder) and it does not matter if you have something open in the browser or not

I've actually just followed my own instructions on my daughter's kindle which is a couple of months newer than mine-and I see-there's no settings button! Now I understand the frustration! Where do you find the 2menus?
