Does anyone see a blue haze around the edge of the screen. It is very noticeable with the browser and reading kindle books. I'm hoping my kindle is just a defect so I can return it.

Yep, blue haze along one edge. It's not enough for me to bother about, but I expect that Amazon will replace yours. Trying contact them.

EDIT: ...

actually, yeah. I think I'll try out Mayday, getting a replacement arranged.

I have a new 32gb HDX that just arrived this morning and I have the blue haze on all four sides of the screen also. It is worse on the long sides and most prominent on the bottom edge in landscape orientation. I will be contacting CS on Monday as well. It is certainly disappointing.

Yeah, this appears to be a common issue. Here's a short article about it:

Same, all around. Was starting to think I was crazy since there are so few mentions of it. I would like to hear if anyone doesn't have a purple border though. Is it a flaw or just the way the screen is?

M. Ratcheson says:
Yep, I'm seeing it on three of the four edges, when I'm viewing a white screen. It's most pronounced along the two long edges, but the bottom short edge has a hint of it, too. Sigh. It's such a lovely thing in every other way.

Yay I agree. I'm really enjoying everything else. the screen is amazing except for the blue haze. I bet it's probably a bad batch and we will all get our kindles replaced. Amazon customer service, any thoughts on the matter?

Just did mayday for it, the lady was very helpful and friendly, but this is a technical issue and tech support has to call you. She took control of my screen and got me to the Amazon tech support screen. I entered my number and they called immediately.

Tech support had not heard of the problem and are next day air sending a replacement. Fingers crossed this is isn't common and those of us with this problem are just really unlucky.

I didn't even see it until I read this post, the only time I notice is when in a book with the white background (I normally have sepia on). Please keep us posted on what happens with the replacements.

I hadn't noticed either. Mines very faint, but there.

Lee Abraham says:
Mine is very noticeable, I noticed it as soon as I opened a book. Since many web pages have light backgrounds as well it's very distracting for me.

If this isn't a flaw, but due to some sort of compromise of the screen tech I will not be keeping it. Never seen anything like this on phones or other tablets.

Really hoping I just got a defective product, it's a pretty neat tablet otherwise.

Just got the email confirmation. Expected delivery of the replacement is Oct 30.

Also I have a 32 gb model without special offers. The new order is for a 64gb with special offers. I do love Amazon, that makes up for waiting another 2 weeks.

Linda M. says:
change of subject here: special offers. Does anyone know if the HDX has "offers", or is it more of the same "ads"?

I wondering if this issue is more common on certain configurations. Perhaps it would be helpful to post details of your affected device. Mine is a 32gb WiFi 7" with ads.

Mine is a 64gbwith special offers....and as mentioned, it wasn't as disruptive for me.

I'm curious, since I ordered the HDX 8.9, if you folks are also seeing the purple fringe during videos. Thanks.

In reply to an earlier post on Oct 18, 2013 6:37:30 PM PDT
Lee Abraham says:
No, only on the reading app and webpages. You could probably see it if the video was very light around the edges though. I can see it now with the keyboard up for instance, but barely. This probably wouldn't be a big deal for most people, but it isn't normal either. These devices are too expensive to have flaws like this in my eyes.

Still waiting on someone to say they don't see it at all.

 Ann says:
I was about to post that I didn't see it, but then I took another look and sure enough, there's a blue glow - just slightly on 3 sides, and more pronounced on the one long side. I didn't notice it before I made a point of looking for it, though.

64GB 7". I only notice the problem when the background is white. Reading a book white-on-black, or playing a game, or watching a video, or browsing a web page that doesn't have a white background, I don't notice it. Hence my initial reply of "eh, not gonna worry about this." But it's *extremely* annoying when reading a book black-on-white, and this is the best setting for daylight reading in my experience.

Also, I don't see anything anywhere in the settings about the automatic contrast adjustment. Maybe that feature was stripped out of the OS, last-minute, and components of it need to be turned on for a consistent display. This pure speculation / wishful thinking would be debunked by a single person not seeing the fringe on a white background, mind.

I am thinking about ordering the HDX Kindle Fire 64 but wondering about the blue haze, also interested in the special offers in the posts I have read, and also, I own the original kindle reader and need info about PRIME.

J. Gibbs says:
If you checkout the display and sounds under settings you have the option to turn on the automatic contrast.

In reply to an earlier post on Oct 18, 2013 7:53:46 PM PDT
Lee Abraham says:
Nope, just checked, that option isn't there.

M. Ratcheson says:
They really want to fix this issue. Amazon is scheduling a pickup for my HDX; the tech I spoke to is sending UPS to my house on Monday, to transport my device to a group of engineers who works closely with their group, to break it apart and try to figure out what went wrong with mine. I'm hopeful it is an issue with a relatively small batch of devices, so the replacement I receive won't suffer from it. If it does, I'm sure they will fix the issue pretty quickly.
