Screen only stays on horizontal. Tried hard start/ no dice. Lock screen/slide bar screen is vertical. Any ideas?

 nospin says:
Click on little gear in the upper right hand corner.
Click on Lock in far left of drop down menu to unlock screen orientation.

If you have a Fire, click on the gear in the top right, then click on Unlock in the upper left.

Mr. Webster,

Open a book, then tap the top of the screen to display the Menu button. You'll see "Portrait Mode" there.

Hello I have a kindle fire hd. I let my young son watch movies on it. He touches the screen and change to a different app and gets mad. Is there a way I lock a movie or app so he can't exit it?

Help, my Kindle won't change the orientation. And yes, my kindle is unlocked. I never treated it badly and all of a sudden it just stopped rotating. The only way to change the orientation now is to open an app that forces a rotation. So it is possible, but the gyroscope seems broken. And as soon as I exit the app, it is the same problem all over again! Please help. Need this fixed as soon as possible.

Same here! Any fixes? What app did you use to force it?

I had this issue and had to turn my phone upside down for the lock to appear.

Hi Nospin,
I'm having the same problem with the Kindle app on a Galaxy Note 2. The phablet setting is for auto-rotate, and no other apps have an orientation problem, but I can't find a screen unlock command in the app. Any thoughts?

hey my kindle will not go out of landscape mode when i go to any web page. kindle fire is in unlocked status. home page and apps appear in correct orientation but cannot get my webpages out of landscape no matter how i turn it. ideas?

CBRetriever says:
reboot - make sure you have over 50% battery, the kindle is unplugged and then hold the power button in for a full 30 seconds (ignore any messages that come up), then wait 15 seconds and turn it back on

and you are going through the Tap for Web and not using an app to access the internet, right?

In reply to an earlier post on Mar 23, 2014 7:34:41 AM PDT
hi this seemed to work! and yes i was going tapping through web not an app

excellent I was wondering because some apps insist on a definite portrait or landscape orientation

My Kindle Paperwhite is stuck in landscape. Portrait option does not appear on drop down menu. The Kindle is fully charged. Tried the reboot And no luck.

it is on the menu, you just need to swipe to see the rest of the menu items like you do on your home page to see more of your Books

Thank you. The menu bar is terribly responsive, but I was able to expose portrait.
