Stick a fork in me -- I'm done with Kindle. This morning, I go to turn it on and the screen was frozen and no amount of resetting would clear it. It's stuck between various screen savers. I called Amazon and they said it's not worth sending it in to be repaired but they can offer me a discounted price on another Kindle of $100+! Ridiculous. This is my 3rd Kindle and I'm done. Unfortunately for me my extended warranty expired last month according to the Customer Svce rep I spoke to. So I'm done. I'm not buying another Kindle. I now have to figure out how to get access to all of the books and magazines I have in my library. Goodbye Kindle!

If you have a smartphone - there are Kindle apps that will let read your books - if you have a PC/Laptop, there are apps for those as well....

You can read books in your library with Kindle for PC or the Kindle Cloud Reader. Details are here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?ie=UTF8&docId=1000493771

So what do you think they should have offered you? Bearing in mind your device is more than a year past the Amazon warranty.

A discount on a device that old would be outstanding, IMO.

FWIW, only one of my Kindles is still under warranty - the other 4 are all more than a year old.

MarcyGirl8....Good Bye to you too. You didn't say how old your Kindle is but since you had the extended warranty it wasn't new. Kindle's are like everything else in this world, they won't last forever and you have to purchase new ones. I thought it was very nice of Amazon to even offer you a discounted price. Go to Barnes and Noble and get yourself a Nook and you will find out what a good deal you had with Amazon. B&H has NO customer service. So as you have suggested, I have stuck a virtual fork in you....you are done. Bye Bye Now (you won't be missed)

You were offered a discount on a product out of warranty! How is this "Ridiculous"?!?! What would you have them do? It seems more than fair to have the discount option, rather than nothing at all. Which is exactly what most companies would offer you, if you were to call them up out of warranty and tell them that you have a broken product.

I also have to wonder what people are *doing* to their Kindles that they are going through so many...

ETA "How" not "Who"

You have come into a public forum to express your distaste for a company that is not giving you a free product out of the warranty period. Amazon is not who you are talking to here - it is a public area of (mostly) Kindle and Amazon lovers.

"What's the animosity about?"

Denizens of this forum have a low tolerance for whiners.

You're whining.

Do the math.

Oh, honey! You posted an entitled rant on a public forum, which is absolutely your right. We posted our opinions of your whinging, which is *our* right.

But seriously, your device is what, 2 years old? What more do you think Amazon should have offered you?

Oh my good god. You People need to take a breath. My refusing to buy another Kindle should not be insulting your way of life. You may think that owning a 2 1/2 yr old Kindle and having it stop functioning out of no where is normal to you, but I don't. I guess submitting an opinion on this forum wasn't a wise choice. I guess all of you who are posting these inane posts of outrage about my refusing to buy a 4th Kindle is very upsetting. What a pity.

In reply to an earlier post on Mar 27, 2013 12:33:15 PM PDT
So your Kindle is two and half years old. Do you think Amazon should have offered you a free replacement? If so, why?

In reply to an earlier post on Mar 27, 2013 12:33:15 PM PDT
Haha. I'm serious though. I am aware that electronics have the potential to fail. But multiple tells me that they are running them around naked, dropping them, sitting on them, letting Fido use them as chew toys. Oh the horror....

No, it was because you were so nasty about presenting your entirely unreasonable rant.

I suppose your current cell phone is the first one you have ever owned, well over 10 years old?

Really, your upset over an electronic device stopping to work after 2 1/2 years? I was upset my $18K car stopped working after 3 years ..... but a $150 item..... yea... not so much. Perspective.

In reply to an earlier post on Mar 27, 2013 12:38:08 PM PDT
*hangs head* I still actively use a cell phone from 2003. Smart phone -- it rings I answer, have conversation, hang up. Does all I need for it to.

In reply to an earlier post on Mar 27, 2013 12:41:48 PM PDT
Don't hang your head. Haha. But that is the exception definitely not the rule.

Pssstt.....I think it was your self-entitled rant that insulted everyone. It wasn't the fact that you chose not to purchase another Kindle. It is the fact that you expect someone to hand you a new Kindle for free. What a pity.

Oh sweetie..you aren't taking money out of my pocket. The reason you won't be missed is b/c of your entitlement issues. They offered you a discount but that wasn't good enough for you? You were out of warrant and extended warranty so I don't know what you expected. I thought they should have offered you nothing. You said you have 3 Kindle's like that is really something. Most of us have at least 3 but a lot of us are closer to 8 or 9 owned so you are not some "big deal" Kindle owner. Your attitude is what I won't be missing and you need not worry about the money in my pocket...it is just fine. Maybe you have a problem and couldn't get the $100.00 together to get the Kindle they offered so i am sorry about that for you, but that's all
