I need help my app store won't open. I get an error message saying it's a network connection problem. But on a different family member's kindle (that uses the same wifi) they can access the app store

Open your Wi-Fi networking connection (the little gear-looking icon at the very top) and make sure it is on and that your home (or wherever you are) is selected.

Have you tried rebooting? Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Once it reboots, see if you can access the app store. If that doesn't work you may need to call Kindle CS.

Alright peeps I figured it out! Make sure the date and time on your kindle is right. I called the amazon customer service people and they talked me thru it and it worked! Btw amazon has amazing customer service reps so call them...they're amazing!

Thanks a lot for your help! Time on my kindle was off, it has been set for January 2000, so after I put the right time it started to work. Thanks again!

Kbug - Have you checked your date and time settings on the Fire? If they are not correct, the App Store will not work.

I am experiencing the exact same behavior...this has actually been happening for a few days now and in a wishful thinking moment, I initially expected the problem to just go away. Obviously it hasn't and yes, I have followed many of the suggestions outlined in numerous posts throughout this forum, verified all settings, etc. to absolutely no avail and now with growing frustration. I wish the resolution was as simple as changing the time or the like so I'm thinking that it's about time to contact customer support. Will update if I learn anything useful. It's annoying that this is happening but glad to know I'm not the only one encountering this issue. Good luck!

**UPDATE 9/17/2012:** Contacted Customer Support directly from my Kindle Fire & they called me almost immediately. The whole process took over an hour and the solution was to restore the device to its factory settings but it's working fine now. Although I wasn't thrilled about having to do the restore, the customer service was superb. Believe me, there are times that I am a representative's worst nightmare but these folks were professional, courteous. and all about me. Nice job Amazon :-)

I am yet another Kindle customer with this problem. Kindle has been working for months and now it stopped working for no apparent reason. This type of problem never happens on my iPhone. Better software sure would be nice

I'm having the same problem! My Amazon app store is not working! I chatted with cust svc yesterday and deregistered, then reregistred. Did no good! Tried to change date to EST, but it keeps going back to Pacific time. This is my third Kindle Fire since December. Customer service is great abiutreplacements, but don't fix the problems. Very annoyed at not being able to access Google Play. If not allowing us to access, then why not offer their apps!!!!

I did this, but it won't stay on EST. It keeps going back to Pacific time. This is my third Kindle Fire since December. Great customer service, but I'm getting tired of this!

Turn off your Automatic provided date and time. it is under your date/time setting.

I also had this problem last night--for the first time. Is there some sort of malware going around or something, that after a year of use my Kindle Fire would suddenly have the time reset to Jan 2000? What is the reason we all had this problem out of the blue?
