The Kindle Fire HD has arrived but with no instructions. Am I supposed to go on line or something. seems bizarre that no written instructions

Almost no devices come with printed manuals anymore due to frequent updates. I believe the user guide is on the device.

But surely it should tell me basic info in a diagram or something. Not even sure how to switch the damn thing on

There is also a guide here on the Amazon website.

There is a Quick Start guide in the lid portion of the box.

When you turn it on, it leads you through a tutorial. Also, in the "books" tab, you will find your Kindle User Guide.

It is *not* bizarre that a device that includes an e-reader, which *does away* with paper books, would not include a ...y'know... a paper book. Seems logical to me.

CBRetriever says:
it's a slim sheet of paper (black on one side so it's hard to see), that's nestled in a slit on the plastic enclosing the kindle (it's not a book)

Are you sure? It's a little card, tucked into a built in pocket, in the *lid* of the box. And ... there's only 3 buttons on the thing. Press them and see what happens.

Thanks but searched the box and packaging and nothing

Two of my Paperwhites didn't have Quick Start guides in the lids.

Dang. That's someone dropping the ball, right there! :0/

Only item is white paper in about 20 languages all legal speak.

I'd argued that with someone recently and, honestly, I didn't believe her. But I've gotten two boxes since that didn't contain anything in that slot.

Boycott!

Yes nothing in mine for sure

That should be (and actually probably is) part of the pick-list when Kindles go out. That's unfortunate.

well, they're dropping the ball, then if that's happening - I'm guessing they figure there's enough in the opening sequences

Presume it takes a few hours to charge before you can do anything. When I press the button after starting to charge it I see a lock sign and a picture which changes frequently. Press the lock but nothing happens. Still think it bizarreb

And I agree on that point, there has to be at least something to get a newbie started. I'd manage but I can just see my dad pulling his hair out. This is a guy who thinks there should be a 50 page printed manual for a speaker dock remote. No, I'm not kidding. We've actually had that discussion.

You don't press the lock, you have to slide it.

What opening sequences. ? When do they start? All I see is a padlock icon

In reply to an earlier post on May 30, 2013 7:27:53 AM PDT
Doesn't the screen say Swipe to Unlock or something like that?
