How can I rearrange the order of my devices so that my preferred device shows up as #1 on the drop down menu?

I have 6 or 7 different devices to which I can send a book I buy on Amazon. Right now the "default" device that shows up is NOT the one I want to use as my default, so I have to physically change it every time I buy a book, unless I forget, in which case the book isn't where I want it to be. Is there a way to make my preferred device the default? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Excellent idea. I just did do some renaming, to better describe what each device was, and I noticed some of them swapped positions, but it just didn't occur to me they were alphabetized. You just made my life easier! Thank you, and have a Happy Valentine's Day!

Or you can put a 1 in front of it instead of the A.

Ok..stupid question, but I have a lot of old and new devices, and never looked at the names so they all say android 1, 2, 3 etc... And I do not know which one is which, how can I figure this out so I can properly label them. :-)

Nobody says:
One by one, send a book sample to each one (a different sample each time and keep track of what you're sending and where). That'll tell you which is which.

Just one thing to remember (and to complicate the issue). This works fine if all the devices are e-ink or all Fires. If you have both types of devices, the e-ink Kindles will be listed in alpha order, followed by the Fires. If you have both types, a Fire can't be the default.

THANK YOU - I WILL TRY THIS! I did not know you could send samples to different devices.

And the kindle reading apps come after actual kindles

Thank you! That is PRECISELY my situation, and now I know why putting an "A" in front of the Fire name did not make it move to the default position. May I presume that, if I accidently forget to change the target to my Fire, I can still transfer it from the e-ink to the Fire, or from the "Manage Your Kindle" page?

That's not a stupid question. It is a good question. If you have actual Kindles there are a couple of ways. Each Kindle will show it's name in the top left corner of the screen. If your kindles are different models, on the Manage Your Kindle page here at amazon.com it will give the type of Kindle each one is and show a picture of the model so you can tell that way.

For apps like "android 1" you should be able to check a couple of ways. In the Device registration part in settings on the device it should give you the name. Another way is by using the "Send-to-Kindle E-mail Address" assigned to each one. You can see the address assigned to each on the Manage Your Kindle page. Then check the settings in the apps for the address that that app is using. That way you can match the device with it's name.

You cannot transfer it from the eink to the Fire. Sending it from MYK will work. What will also work, is tapping on Books on your Fire, and then tapping on Cloud ( forget where that s, it says either cloud or device). Tapping on the book in Cloud will get it to download to Device.

Okay, maybe this should be a new thread, but someone mentioned the Manage Your Kindle (MYK) page, and this question concerns that. On the MYK page, the left-hand column lists "Pending Deliveries" which, for some reason, were not sent to the identified device. Mine all refer to devices I no longer have. Is there a way to delete the list of Pending Deliveries? It isn't hurting anything, I just like to keep things neat and clean. OCD, I guess.

That is what I have on my Android phone and tablet. How can I order them the way I want, not neccessarily alphabetical, or put them into collectoins?

Posted on Jul 26, 2014 2:59:25 PM PDT
It's not clear what you're asking, because collections has nothing to do with the topic. Why don't you try again! Actually, if your question doesn't have anything to do with the original topic, start a new thread by asking a new question.
