Kindle Fire and Latin America

Greetings, first of all sorry about my English, I'm not a native English speaker.

I really want to buy a Kindle Fire, Full Color 7" Multi-touch Display, Wi-Fi but I live in Guatemala and whenever I try to buy music from your store I get a message that you can't sell me music because of the country I live.
Are you going to give us access to these features or Kindle Fire is a no for Latin America?

D. Baker says:
For now it is a No. Maybe in the future, it will be a Yes.

I spend most of the year in Central America and that is what has kept me from jumping on the Fire Bandwagon. Would only be able to use it when I am in US.

The 3G on my first Kindle was only functional in US (had to sideload books when I was overseas) and now they have 3G in most countries, so I am hoping the Fire will follow the same path.

Thank you so much for your answer and the time you took to share your experiences. I will have to wait then :).

I am using the Kindle Fire in Costa Rica just to surf the web and my kids like to watch Youtube videos. I don't understand why are we not allowed to buy music, videos, or applications. It's ridiculous!

I wish I had not bought it. Mine even has a problem on the screen. And unfortunately, returning it from outside the US is a real problem.

@Virgo: You can't buy videos and other items, except for ebooks, because the copyright issues have not been sorted out yet - if they ever can be. That is why the product page says: "US only".

Thanks for the quick response John. I guess I should have read more before buying it for travelling outside the US...

Virgo, I am going to be in CR 4 Jan through 14 Mar. I was going to buy a Fire to use there. The apartment I am renting has wifi. Do you know if you can stream the instant videos?

Unfortunately no. It's not possible. I am using now my Kindle Fire just to surf the web. Getting videos, music, or applications is not possible outside the US. If you take your KF with you while traveling outside the US, you will be very VERY disappointed.
Note: Just changed my nick from Virgo to Ramon.

You can download only books available for sale in Guatemala. You cannot download apps, music or videos. You can transfer your own stuff, assuming it's in the correct format.

If you have access to wi-fi, you can get it that way. If not, you will have to download it to your computer and sideload it using the USB connection.

Huge disapointment.
I Live in El Salvador and frustred with the download of the "Apps and Music". Just traveld for work into Miami and REALLY felt the KF experience / dissaponinment
Its so ridiculus when we live in a Globalize World that only "Us Citizen".... Did Jef Bezos honestly did his homework or just did it to respond to apples products (4gs etc)
Suggestion: DONT PRUCHASE the KF if living outside the usa
It is no wonder why Amazon stock is so low..... bad decisions made in Amazon right now

Frank Tuttle says:
Amazon does NOT control international copyright law. Amazon is an American corporation, not a governing body or legal action agency. They have to abide by copyright law, just as everyone else does. And this is not a "US" only problem -- foreign copyright laws are just as much a part of the mess as US laws.

Everyone who thinks we're all 'Global Citizens' in some sort of warm and fuzzy Utopia should study a little international copyright law. You'll soon see we are anything but unified.

Well Ernesto, that's the way it is. And your advice is very good. DON'T PURCHASE KINDLE FIRE IF YOU LIVE OUTSIDE THE USA.

Well, i live in Panama, and I have a Kindle Fire myself, its great for surfing the web and I love the thing but.... I understand that I am not able to buy music, or movies, or tv shows, but not being able to buy apps it's just silly. The iPod touch is a good alternative, even though the screen is much smaller, you can buy all the apps, the music, tv shows and movies you want all over Latin America through iTunes.

If I had a Kindle Fire, would I be able to upload my personal videos or regular movies to see them on the kindle if I am in Costa Rica?

"Suggestion: DONT PRUCHASE the KF if living outside the usa"

And Amazon make more than just a suggestion out of it on the product page:

"Kindle Fire
Full Color 7" Multi-touch Display, Wi-Fi
Order now. Orders are prioritized on a first come, first served basis. U.S. only"

Note the "US only" part. ;)
