I have never taken advantage of the borrow 1 free book for Prime members(for as long as you want) before and have a few questions:

1)When does the 1 month period start. Does the 1 month period start from the day you select you first free Prime book or on the first of the calendar month?

ANSWERED(thanks Zanzibar & S. Prewitt): First calendar day of the month.

2)Is there a way to see a list of just the books that are currently free for Prime members-not on my device, but on Amazon in my web browser? (my attempts to search on my computer have not been totally successful)

ANSWERED(thanks S. Prewitt): http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=&x=6&y=14#/ref=sr_nr_p_85_0?rh=n%3A283155%2Cp_n_feature_browse-bin%3A618073011%2Cp_85%3A2470955011&bbn=283155&ie=UTF8&qid=1328070504&rnid=2470954011

3)Is there a list, like a website or discussion forum that lists some of the best choices for a free book to pick for the month; maybe by genre or author?

4)Will you be able to see what book you picked as your free Prime book somewhere after you select it--because I know these can be borrowed.

Thanks for any help.

Zanzibar says:
You don't get a free book, you get to borrow one book per calendar month for free. You can't borrow another one the next month until you return the one you have already borrowed.

S. Prewitt says:
1. First calendar day of the month. I'm not sure what time, though--it doesn't seem to begin at midnight.

2. From Amazon Home, search the Books department (leave the "search for" box blank); then click on Format = Kindle Edition; then click on Amazon Prime = Prime Eligible. There they are, 94,698 books you can borrow as I type this!

3. ---

4. You can see which book you've borrowed in Manage Your Kindle. Also, you might want to assign it to an "Amazon KOLL Prime" collection on your device to keep track of it.

Thanks for your help Zanzibar & S. Prewitt.

I'm going to try borrowing a book tomorrow on the 1st and then I'll be able to see how it shows up in "Manage Your Kindle". But setting up a collection to keep track of it is a good idea, especially since it's something I've never done before.

Guess I should be able to pick something from the 94,698 books that will interest me :-)
The sheer volume of the choices is exactly why I was hoping there was a recommended list somewhere. But I guess just searching by category will work too.

S. Prewitt says:
If you borrow your first book today, I think it will count as your January borrow. Then you can return it anytime in February and make your February borrow.

If you wait until Feb 1 to borrow your first book, then you'll lose your January borrow; you won't be able to borrow another until March 1 at the earliest.

Note: I always reserve the right to be wrong, but I believe that's how it works.

CLS10 says:
That is correct. I borrowed a book today and received a message that my next borrow can occur on 2/1/12.

1. Many, many, many people here have subscribed to Prime for years for the shipping.

2. Self promotion isn't permitted.

Oh my gosh - this is your THIRD post on the same thing!

Three times? Yes, I believe you're using it as a way to advertize your book. Stop it.

Sarka-Jonae -

Prime was started solely as a 2-day shipping program. Plentry of people joined for that purpose. The book borrow and TV Show/Movies is an added bonus for the shipping program.

I have been Prime member for years. I use it frequently for 2-day shipping, well worth the fee. I have watched a few items on the Prime video but we have not borrowed a book (we own 4 kindle devices). Those are both bonus items which to me don't factor into the cost/value of Prime for me.

And if someone decided to pay $79 a year to borrow one book a month and didn't use it much (or any) for two-day shipping then all the better for Amazon. They pay the authors for each and every copy of a book borrowed from the Kindle Library. It varies by month based on a formula but has generally been over $2 a copy. I assume Amazon's thought is, you might also take advantage of shipping feature and buy other items from them to offset cost. $79 over 12 months is $6.58 a month... A book could cost you that and shipping gets crazy expensive from most places, so its all in the eye of the beholder.

I doubt if you really care one way or another about the value of prime, you're just looking for a opportunity to promote your book!
Reported both times.

I beg to differ. Two-day shipping is why almost all Prime members joined. It is the primary purpose of Amazon Prime.

You resurrected an 8-month-old thread to shill your book? You do realize that you've just alienated a bunch of potential readers, right? As a marketing strategy, that probably wasn't too swift...

Reported.

Stop spamming this forum with your self promotion, this is at least the fourth post you've made today resurrecting old threads. You are violating the terms of use and have been reported for abuse. I will never buy any of your books because you can't follow the simple rules of posting on this forum.

that is why they call it the Kindle Owners Lending Library and not Kindle App users Lending Library

ETA: membership to the Philly Free Public library is only $35 for non Philly residents and a much better deal and a MUCH larger selection of books to borrow. Able to borrow more than 1 book a month too.
