What do you do to use the Kindle when I go away from my house.

Silver, you either need to go to a location that has free WiFi, use your Smart Phone to create a WiFi signal, or purchase a personal Hotspot device, from your cell provider. Both of the second choices would use your data from your data plan.

You need to either have downloaded the content you want to use, find a public WiFi hotspot you can log onto, or create your own WiFi hotspot with a smartphone or a MiFi device.

If your friend has their WiFi secured, you will need the password/network key that they use to access their wireless network. Your friend should have that information.

What I am trying to find out is where do I enter all this information on my Kindle.

In the area where you turn the WiFi on. It will take you about 30 seconds.

Is that in the settings?

The same place you did it when you connected to the wi-fi in your house.

If you go to Starbucks, you switch to their wi-fi. (In the wi-fi area of your Fire, which is Menu, Wi-fi.) If you then drive somewhere else and stop at a McDonald's, same thing. Connect to that wi-fi. Menu, Wi-fi.

At your friend's, select Menu, Wi-fi. Enter her password. Connect.

When you go home, re-connect to your home wi-fi.

It is in the Wireless settings, found when you swipe down from the top of the screen. The same place you now use to turn your WiFi on and off.

You swipe down, tap Wireless, you'll see a list of available WiFi networks. You'll need to select your friends, then you will see the place where you type in the password/network key.

Thank-you you have been very helpful. I think I will be able to do this now. I am a senior and some of this stuff is hard to understand.
