I have a windows 7 computer, and Ipod and a brand new kindle fire. The instructions to move music over a USB is entirely too confusing. Can this be done and how?? Please help.

This is actually pretty basic. At what point in the instructions are you having a problem?

Run a USB cable from the Fire to the computer. The Fire will show up as an external drive, like an external memory card or whatever. Then, open your music files on the computer. Drag and drop the ones you want over to the Fire.

I prefer to upload music to the cloud using Amazon's Up loader:

Get to the main Kindle menu - go to settings and do the SYNC. Then you will probably see them.

Yes, this is so much easier than using wires and dragging the files!! and my music is everywhere I am, so when I do purchase any cd's or Amazon music - it is so much easier to load them.

I will try this! Thank you - will it work for Itunes music on my PC?

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 5, 2012 12:17:56 PM PST
Yes. The MP3 and M4A files that iTunes use will upload OK. I have a few iTunes albums uploaded. (The old DRMed files from pre-2009 won't work though) You are limited to 250 songs with the free Cloud account. You have to pay for a Premium Cloud account to be able to upload more than 250.

If your iTunes files are in the default format, it won't work. You will have to convert them to MP3 format first, before you copy them to the Fire.

Apple is using M4A (MP4) format which is an accepted format for both the Fire and Amazon Cloud Music. I have multiple M4A files from iTunes uploaded to the Cloud player and on my Fire.

I have windows 7 and it will sometimes block downloads. If you have a problem try using firefox with Amazon cloud uploads and downloads. Also if you set itunes as default for downloads all music you buy at Amazon on your computer will automatically go into your itunes. If you buy while on your Fire will be in the cloud. That's when I have to use Firefox to download to computer itunes.

I was able to SYNC using the method you suggested. Running Windows 7 and Kindle Fire HD. I had to use Windows Media Player instead of iTunes for file transfer. Media Center guides you through the transfer process. Pretty simple. I decided against Amazon Cloud as I use iCloud already. I do not need too much personal information on several different cloud storages. It is a shame Amazon and Apple do not play well together but it is about the money.

I have a new kindle fire - $49.99 version. I want to put music (from my CDs) onto the fire. I don't want to pay for Amazon cloud storage and am not a prime member. So... using Windows Media Player, I synced to the Fire. When the Fire is connected to my computer (windows 10), I can see the files in the internal storage but I can't find them on the kindle.

Also, downloaded Windows Media Player to the Kindle Fire and can't find that either.

How are you attempting to run a Windows based program on an Android based device?

I know. I couldn't believe it either. There was a link to Microsoft for Windows Media Player 11 in the instructions on the kindle.

A. Dietz says:
The Windows Media Player won't run on an Android device, so it doesn't matter if you can find it or not except that the file is taking up a lot of room on your Kindle Fire.
