I've been looking at replacing my 1st generation iPad. I really hardly ever use my iPad. I was using it primarily as a reader, but I find my iPhone easier to cart around. So, right now my iPad is being used as an alarm clock...a very expensive one.

I've been looking at the Kindle Fire HD, but I want to make sure it doesn't go to waste. I'm really not interested in watching movies on a itty bitty screen unless I'm traveling, which isn't that often. I did see that there is an HDMI output. So, here's my question...can I use the Kindle Fire HD to replace my blu-ray player?

If I can replace my blu-ray player & also use the Kindle Fire HD when traveling, or when I want to watch one of my movies at a friend's house, then it would be worth the investment for me. Otherwise, it's not worth the money it costs. I'll end up with another $1k alarm clock! :P

You cannot use the Fire to play blu-ray DVDs. But, no Fire costs $1k.

A Roku hooked up to your television would be a better choice for streaming.
