I have had a Kindle Keyboard for over 3 years now, and I purchased a Fire HDX in December when they offered the staggered payment plan.

Having been on this forum since I first purchased my K3, I have read and waded through thousands of threads detailing all kinds of problems and issues both hardware and software related. I have never had a problem with my K3 at all, and so far no problems with the Fire (no wifi dropping, no weird colors at the bottom, no books mysteriously disappearing, no battery issues, and so on).

Have I just been lucky with these 2 devices, or do people like to hop on here and complain before they REALLY look into an issue?

I have 3 devices myself with no problems at all either. I also have a 3 year old Kindle Keyboard, a Basic Kindle that is almost 2 years old and a Paperwhite 2.

I have an original K1 that still works great. Sometimes I turn it on just to look at the shiny silver scroll bar. Since then, I've bought a KK, Touch, and two Fires... none have had a single problem.

Mine refuses to make me a sandwich after midnight. Should have gone Google!

Seriously, though, most Kindle owners don't have issues, and thus they don't post here.

I will never come close to that number. There is no way I will every be able to read that many books by the time I die. I have well under 1000 in my cloud.

I know, right? If someone read 1 eBook a day, that would be almost 10 years of reading - longer if take more than 1 day to read a book.

I'm lucky if I can get to read 2 books a weeks - that would be like 60 years worth of reading material for me.

I've never had a problem with my K3.
I originally came to this forum by doing a search in Yahoo for how to use the MP3 player, and stayed for the free book thread.

I am not sure what you consider slow. I read 2-3 books a week on average. Most of them are at least 300 pages and a lot of them are over 600. I am also the only one on my account so I can see a family having more books.

People in forums speak up when they have a problem. They're generally silent about things working well. That's normal. It's also normal for any electronic product to deliver a few bad ones and those are the ones that get talked about in here.

I've bought every e-ink Kindle since my first, the Kindle Keyboard. The older ones are still being used by friends. I've also bought a Fire and a Fire HD. I have 3 Paperwhites, including one Paperwhite 2. In all of these the only problem I've had is one Paperwhite where the 3G wouldn't connect from the day I got it. That was quickly replaced. Other than that they've all been perfect.

11 Kindles in our group. ALL of them are still working just fine, thank you, from a first generation Kindle 1 bought in May of 2008 (retired, but still functioning) to a recently purchased Fire HDX 8.9. Only ever had one failure, when a Kindle Keyboard was accidentally sat upon. Oh, and I should report, the computer nerd in our group hacked one of the first gen Fires -- it now runs Ubuntu, but is otherwise functional.

We have 2 KKs, 2 Basics, 1 PW, as well as one 7" Fire 1st gen, one 7" Fire 2nd gen, and one Fire 8.9" 2nd gen.

The ONLY, and I mean ONLY issue I have EVER had, out of 8 devices, is that well-known charger port on the 1st gen Fire. That's it! We have been perfectly happy with our devices in every other aspect.

No problems here either.
1 KK and 2 Basics since the fall of 2011.

We've had eleven Kindles, starting with a K1 bought in early 2008. The only one with a problem was the Touch that the dog mistook for a chew toy...

It's a little known fact, the natural enemies of Kindles are not the iPad and the Nexus, they are the butt and the canine.

I had the K2 and it was perfect as was the original Fire. But my wife's PW2 suffers from uneven lighting and the HDX and replacements have had so many problems that I've thrown my hands up in frustration and am abandoning the Kindle platform for an ereader.

Some people seem to be gadget-unfriendly. While I'm not particularly graceful or even careful, all my kindles are still functional. I've also never broken iPads or iPods. I did once break an iPhone by letting it fall face down onto a concrete floor.

When I see someone post "My kindles never last more than 6 months" I always wonder what they're doing with them. Kindles are e-readers and tablets, not frisbees.
