okay this may seem dumb but I'm still unclear. There's Fire/Fire HD/Fire HD4GLTE. If I'm mainly interested in a reader for books/color magazines/tvshows/movies which should I get? If I get FireHD will it play non-HD? any real and noticeable improvement to go for 4G LTE?

J. Donahue says:
Fire 4G LTE simply gives you access to your Amazon content when you're not connected to a wifi network. That's the only real difference between the Fire HD and the Fire HD 4G LTE.

It will play non-HD video files if they are in the correct format.

Sheila (NJ) says:
At the regular prices the Fire HD (7" for $199) is well worth the extra 40 bucks over the regular Fire (2nd gen for $159). You get more storage, faster wifi, better speakers, external volume control, light sensor, camera, longer battery life, blue tooth connectivity and the ability to hook up your Fire HD to your TV.

I personally wouldn't spend the $299 for the 8.5 Fire HD because at that price you can get tablets that aren't locked into Amazon and have specs that are just as good, and I would never spend $499 for the one with 4G - but that is just me.

I did buy the the standard Fire when it went on sale for $129 because it was for my son who didn't need the bells and whistles and I liked spending $70 less than the HD. When not on sale though, I'd go for the Fire HD.
