KDD says:
I work in a library (and am a major Kindle user myself). I'm trying to help a patron with a new-to-me problem when downloading books from our Overdrive library.

We can borrow the book and click download and choose Kindle format. The process then takes us to the patron's Amazon account as it should and we tell Amazon to download it to the patron's Fire HD.

But the book never shows up in Manage Your Kindle and never downloads to the Fire. When we try to download it from Overdrive again, the Amazon page gives us the message "This digital library book has been claimed. View your loan details on Manage Your Kindle," but the book is not listed in MYK.

I can download a book from our library to my own Kindle with no problems.

A Customer says:
Have you tried looking in the Kindle's archives or cloud? MYK can be flaky. Other than that, I can only suggest speaking to Amazon and/or Overdrive Customer Service.

Edited to clarify.

Dittie says:
My best guess is said patron accidentally created a second account when he or she acquired the Kindle Fire.

Dittie says:
We get it. You can't be of help, with or without your nook.

A case in which the voting buttons are literal.

A Customer says:
Well, thanks for nothing. Literally nothing potentially useful. I'm sure the OP appreciates that.

KDD says:
Where are the archives on a Fire HD? I tried looking, but couldn't find them. (I don't have a Fire myself; I have a Touch)

KDD says:
Really not sure why you're even on Kindle boards, let alone replying to Kindle questions if you don't even have a Kindle?

In reply to an earlier post on Jul 5, 2013 10:32:48 AM PDT
It's not called Archive on the Fire. It's the Book tab, then "Cloud".

Dittie says:
Where did you look if you don't have a Fire HD?

In reply to an earlier post on Jul 5, 2013 10:34:20 AM PDT
KDD says:
I was with her throughout the process attempting to checkout and download the book-- she logged into the Amazon account that has her Fire and clearly selected that Fire finish the checkout process.

Thanks for the idea, though -- it's certainly something patrons have indeed done before!

KDD says:
Oh -- then we did try that and the books weren't there.

Dittie says:
Oh, sorry. I misunderstood.

In reply to an earlier post on Jul 5, 2013 10:35:44 AM PDT
I'm betting that Dittie's right and the customer has 2 accounts and doesn't realize it.

A Customer says:
Then you probably should speak with Kindle CS or Overdrive CS. Good luck.

KDD says:
I meant that I myself don't have a Fire HD, so I didn't know where to find the archives, since my Touch has "Archives" clearly labeled. Now I know from Folina's post that the Fire calls it the cloud and I did check the cloud.

KDD says:
Tried Amazon through the chat process, but they were not able to help us in a reasonable amount of time. After about half an hour, the patron needed to leave and plans to return so we'll try again. I was hoping someone here had some ideas for when she returns.

I have to think it's Amazon's end and not Overdrive's, since Amazon clearly thinks the book was claimed.

A Customer says:
I clarified my post. Sorry for the confusion. I have e-ink Kindles too, so I forget to make it clear the cloud and archive are the same. And I should have read ~all~ the words in your post. ;-)

KDD says:
No problem -- I learned something new this way! I really did keep looking for "archives" on the Fire. Now I know better!

In reply to an earlier post on Jul 5, 2013 10:41:18 AM PDT
Dittie says:
If it's not on the device, it's not in the cloud/archive and it's not in that account's MYK, there is most likely another account in the equation. Kindle customer service can determine that and they're the ones who can fix it.

In reply to an earlier post on Jul 5, 2013 10:44:12 AM PDT
It probably was claimed, but the email was probably attached to another account. Betcha a doughnut that the customer has 2 accounts and doesn't realize it.

A Customer says:
Very strange. But I wonder if there's a second account in the mix somehow. Good luck - and I'm sure the patron appreciates all the help.

Dittie says:
I want a donut but I'm betting the same thing you are.

Charlie says:
I've seen that error message before. It was because I had recently clicked on the book in my other Amazon account. In other words, I'm betting Star-Spangled Dittie figured it out back at post #3 this series.
