Is prime music available on the original Kindle Fire?

King Al says:
No. It is possible that it will be added in a later update, but don't bet on it.

My original kindle fire gets daily use still. If Prime Music is not available for the OKF, then why is it not? Is there an issue with hardware or is this a tactic to push prime customers to newer KF devices. Seems unfair if this is a possibility.

Tom McCart says:
I imagine it is the latter since paid for music can be played on the original kindle fire.

While I have no information on this from Amazon, it would appear logical that it has to do with the fact that the first generation Fire has a different operating system then the later versions (different version of Android OS). Perhaps this causes a security problem or some other issue integrating with the Prime Music service.

I don't think so, because you can play Prime music on the 2012 HD, which is also a non-current Fire.

I appreciate all of you responding to my question. I believe that the OS for the OKF is different from the later versions. Maybe this is the reason that Prime Music is not available on the OKF. The thing is I am having the darnedest time trying to find published info that the OKF is not to have Prime Music here on Amazon's website. Oh well, I still love the OKF. Hopefully Amazon will support it with PM before it dies. Thanks again to all.

"Prime members can play Prime Music on compatible devices that support Amazon Music, including Kindle Fire 2nd Generation, Kindle Fire HD, Kindle Fire HDX, iOS devices, Android smartphones and tablets (v.4.0 and above), PC, Mac, and the Amazon.com website."

If the 1st gen Fire was compatible, Amazon would not have specified "2nd Generation". Vendors & manufacturers aren't going to issue negative copy on their products, you'll rarely see what a product *won't* do, but if you have a specific use or need and there's no mention of it, then it's not there.

Thanks M.Patterson. After I submitted my last post, I looked again into the "learn more about Prime Music" and found a statement that the 1st Gen Kindle Fire does not support Prime Music. Too bad because I use my OKF daily and Prime Music would be a great addition to its features. Adding insult to injury, I have a Windows Phone and there is no Amazon Digital Music app for this system yet. Just my luck!

I'm in the same situation. I have a first gen kindle and a windows phone. I hope they make it available on one of these devices soon!

Me, too, actually...I have a 1st gen Fire and, so long as it's working, no plans to spring for a new one. Prime Music would've been fun to play with but it's simply not a big deal, I get my subscription's worth out of the other Prime benefits.

I ran across this thread after spending 40 minutes on the phone with Amazon Support trying to get prime music downloaded to my wife's Kindle Fire 1st gen. I have a Fire HD and was trying to get the same songs onto her Kindle. Support person kept refreshing the playlist as well as having me deregister and reregister the 1st gen. Support person finally said there was a problem and someone would get back to me in 24 to 48 hours. I told her several times that it was a 1st gen Fire. Maybe she hasn't read this thread? And just now I got an email from the support person asking me if she had solved my problem. If 1st gen Fire isn't compatible, seems like Amazon Support should know that.

There are many issues/areas that Amazon Support doesn't know. I called once a long time ago when I couldn't navigate back to the page to see any gifted books that were not redeemed. They had no clue how to get there. I found it myself.

As for the rest that think that the original Kindle Fire should be able to stream the Prime Music. It would be great. However much like owners of a 1st Generation Ipod touch (or MANY MANY other electronics) operating systems change and are no longer supported. If you have a 1st Gen Ipod do not update your apps because they won't work any longer because the OS has been updated. Electronics, like cars, are out of date when they roll off the assembly line and off the lot.

my kindle fire won't power up

and how does that relate to Prime music?

I came across this thread a week ago since I was having the same problem with my 1st Gen. But today I opened the music portion of my Kindle to find that Prime Music loaded! Looks to me like it's now available on the 1st Gen devices.

Hey Ryan, thanks for the post but I have my OKF open and no prime music. I made sure the music and the Kindle itself has been updated. Are you sure it is an original kjndle fire (OKF)you have and not the 2nd Gen KF?

Tom McCart says:
I checked mine too and no prime music.

In reply to an earlier post on Aug 10, 2014 12:24:55 PM PDT
Ryan, are you confusing Prime music with your Music Cloud? They're not the same thing.

I hope it's happening for everyone. I opened today and it is still not updated. I'll see if updating/refreshing could help. I also wonder if running amazon prime on my pc then using splashtop to stream to my okf will work?

In reply to an earlier post on Aug 23, 2014 10:27:31 AM PDT
The poster you are replying to must have not had a 1st Gen Fire. Prime music is *not* available on them.

From the Prime music Help pages:
Prime members can play Prime Music on compatible devices that support Amazon Music, including Kindle Fire 2nd Generation, Kindle Fire HD, Kindle Fire HDX, Fire phone, iOS devices, Android smartphones and tablets (v.4.0 and above), PC, Mac, and the Amazon.com website.

E. Martinez says:
So the final solution is: buy a new kf hd or root your kf 1st gen and make it a tablet.

what about prime PLAYLISTs? (which are free and awesome!) I don't seem to have access to prime playlists on my Kindle HD second generation - but they do appear on my third generation Kindle Fire - anyone know? Again - this is a subset of Prime music - I'm asking about Playlists here...They just don't seem to be available on the second generation.
