I have created collections on Kindle PC, imported them to the Kindle, fine.
But when I add a new book to the collection on the PC, its not in the collection on the kindle.
Is there a way to keep the PC collections and Kindle collections in sync?
Thank you for your help.

Paul K. says:
from another thread, at least you can go one way:

"On your Kindle, open the Archive. There should be an option at the top that says something like "Copy collections from other device". When you click that it will give you a list of the other devices that you can copy collections from. Click the one you want to copy from."

worked for me.

It's really annoying... Now I have to manually check what's on my Kindle.
Or organise Kindle's collections using the device instead of my computer, which is even more painful. :(

No, you can import collections from one device to another (as Paul said), but not synchronize them continuously. I think that's on purpose, because usually each Kindle will belong to another family member/friend/whoever, and they will have different ideas about categorizing their content.

Being Flexible in your Cogitation, I trust you will have no problems using one of third-party collection management tools. See, for example:

- Free, multiplatform Calibre collection management plugin:
http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=118635

- A stand-alone free Windows application:
http://colegate.indefero.net/p/kindlecollectionmanager/

- Another stand-alone Windows application, flashier, but only limited demo is free:

Enjoy!

Thanks! I know this is an old post, but I've been trying to find out how to do this for days. I'm so glad I found your instructions. Made it really easy. : )

I tried to import the collections from my PC to my K2, and rather than updating the existing collection it duplicated ALL the collections. I was able to delete some of the duplicates, but some refused to be deleted. I had to have CS walk me thru deleting them, one-at-a-time, what a PIA it was. Based on that experience, I have to mange the collections on my K2 rather than on my PC.

I was hoping to use the Kindle on PC to manage the collections, as it is a LOT easier than fussing with the 5-way controller.

If I buy a Kindle HD, can I load technical books and literature from Journals and web sites to read on the road? It would help in not having to open a laptop and read documents on the plane?
BAM

I just got off the phone w Cust Supt.
It appears that you can import the collections from the PC to the Kindle ONCE.

First you have to copy all the books/files from the PC to the Kindle.
Then you can import the collections.

The book files are separate from the collections. The collections appears to be links or tags to the books, not the books themselves.

Once the collections are on the Kindle, if you do another import, you could get your collections messed up like I did.
The only work around seems to be to DELETE ALL the collections from the Kindle, then import them again.
It is an import of the collections from the PC -> Kindle is an "import," it is NOT a sync of the collections.
What is odd is going the other way, Kindle -> PC, it does sync.

So there does not appear to be a way to sync the books themselves. You will have to manually sync them or use a 3rd party program to do it for you.

I'm still genuinely surprised Amazon hasn't written some kind of application to manage the Kindle via USB. Help with collections, backgrounds, etc. Your method worked for me, thanks kind sir or madam.

But you CAN'T import collections if you're using the Kindle APP instead of a Kindle DEVICE, which REALLY SUCKS!!!! Collections should sync across ALL Kindles - be they apps OR devices. This whole Collections / sync situation just blows, imho. I wish they'd fix it.

Has anybody used the collection management tools dragi raos mentions above? I'm always reluctant to just download anything executable when it's not from a known trusted source. Hoping to hear they or one of them is safe.

Unbelieveable - spent an hour at the Apple store with tech trying to sync new paperwhite, Mac & iPhone apps. What a PITA! & a waste of time - his & mine. Cant believe Amazon / Kindle is so forward in so many ways, yet so far behind with something as easy as syncing their own apps/ products. Ridiculous, obnoxious, annoying and incredibly frustrating!!!! Good thing I didn't know this before I got the new one - might have stayed with the keyboard..... :(

AMAZON!!! Please make your whisper sync technology work across every kindle platform and have them all sync and be on the same page. NOW!

Collections on the Fire Phone is even more difficult. You can't import or export the Collections, or easily delete them all to start over. I've given up on Collections. They're basically useless in its current form.
