Eugene C. Lo says:
How do I locate a file on the Kindle Fire after I have downloaded it from the Internet? For example, Word docs or Pdf docs? I know they show up on the downloaded list but is this the only way to access them? Is there any way to put a downloaded file (e.g. Pdf ebook) on the carousel to make it easier to return quickly to reading it?
Sorry to digress into a rant but why is such a simple, common task like locating downloaded files so non-intuitive and/or non-existent? Or is this just something to put up with in a $200 tablet?
I am no Apple fetishist (only own an older iPod touch) but the more I use my Kindle, the more I either gravitate back to my iPod or wish I own an iPad, simply for the elegantly simple user interface.

I use file expert from the app store.

I use either ES File Explorer app or ASTRO app, both from the Amazon Kindle appstore.

BTW, from within Silk (Web) browser, tap the screen and the bottom bar pops up. Tap the Menu icon (3-side square w/ 3 horizontal lines).

Then select "Downloads". It shows the contents of the /Downloads folder. You can launch it from there too.

Kindle Fire HD 7", Dolby Audio, Dual-Band Wi-Fi, 16 GB - Includes Special OffersSame issues. Plus I can't even use the WiFi at my university because it requires the xpressconnect app. Kindle only uses Amazon apps and it does not have it plus I can't download it from google play. I'm really annoyed with this Kindle Fire HD.

❤ Ann says:
Try the menu icon (3 lines) to the left of the browser tabs.

There's an image on the help page here (for the HD1, other models should be similar) - http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201294300

Thank you it worked! This gadget is so smart! Your jump site was a big help. I keep forgetting that you can "swipe" for menus.

Thanks Ann! Also, I do have to add that I agree with the sentiment of the original post: why is certain functionality so buried. iPad is easier to use. Strangely enough, any app/functionality that includes spending money on Amazon works brilliantly on kindle. Downloading content from outside the Amazon ecosystem is difficult though - weird

Okay so I bought a book for my kindle on the internet but I cant figure out how to download it to my kindle at all. I cant even figure out how to download it to my computer it just goes to cloud reader.

Julius: I assume that you bought the book from Amazon. Try these steps one at a time until the book shows up:

1. Turn on the Kindle's wireless, and then do a Sync and Check for New Items (open the Settings menu to find that).

2. Look in your Cloud/Archives and see if it's there - if so click on it, and it will download to the Home screen.

3. Go to your 'Manage Your Kindle' page, and send the book from there. http://amazon.com/manageyourkindle - First, click on 'Your Cloud Library' along the top. Find the book and click on it to select it. Then above the list of books, click the 'Deliver to my...' button. Be sure to select the correct Kindle device from the dropdown menu. Then start again at step #1.

4. Reboot your Kindle (hold power button in the ON position for 30 seconds), then start at step 1.

4A. DO NOT do this step if you have a Kindle Fire - De-register, then re-register if you have an e-ink kindle, and then start at step 1.

5. Try to send it to your Kindle via USB cable ( http://amazon.com/kindletransfer ).

6. Contact Customer Support. Use the large orange Contact Us button to the right to contact Amazon Kindle CS and talk with them about it - use the live chat or the call back feature if you can, not email. If you can't see a Contact Us button on this page, then go to https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/contact-us/kindle-help.html and contact CS. I advise using Live Chat or the Call Me Back feature and not email, as they will have your account details available to them immediately when you talk with them.

Wendy Ryle says:
I was confused because the "three lines" at the bottom of the screen offers "share Page," "Add Bookmark," "Find in Page," and Request Another View." Nothing that says "Documents."

After you said "3 lines to the left of the browser tabs," I clicked on it and found the Documents. Most easily explained: Look in the upper left corner of the Kindle. Underneath "_____'s Kindle" are the three horizontal lines. Click on that and the Documents menu will come up.

Thanks, Ann! Frustrations finally over!

Still can't get it to work. Can see the files in downloads but can't open them.

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 10, 2014 5:46:24 AM PDT
You should be able to just tap on them, and they'll load. You probably need to contact Customer Service.

But you could try deleting them and redownloading; maybe they didn't load all the way.
