After upgrading today my Kindle Paperwhite 1st generation to 5.3.9 I've open some original PDF documents. The first was very fast, but after that when I open another PDF it crashes and I have to restart the kindle or deleting de PDF through USB.

It's a text PDF with a few little images, about 300 pages. But after I've tried with shorter PDFs and I have the same problem.

Someone has the same problem?

When will be available 5.4.2 for this Kindle? Will it handle the problem?

Edited: I've performed a full reset of the Kindle and still have the same problem...

I have the same problem, really wish I could figure out what to do about it as my Kindle used to be really useful for reading pdfs (I'm a student).

I have the same problem. I can view some PDF's, but some, about 40% it seems cause it to lock up where I have to reboot it. Bummed and searching for a solution.

Try converting the format.

My PDF crashes sometimes as well so I keep two formats on my kindle. The original pdf and the new .mobi or .epub.

Now amazon will convert to the kindle format (.mobi) for free if you just email the file to your kindle address with "convert" in the title.

But there are 3rd party programs that do the same.
