Hey, all! This thread's intended as an ongoing tribute to our dear friend dog, that through witticisms, utter nonsense, casual conversation, silly theme days and contributions, he may be kept alive in these pages, in our hearts and continue to have a real world impact in real people's lives.

For every ten posts posted, I pledge to contribute a dollar to a charity listed below. Anyone who's willing to join me, may and according to whatever formula they feel comfortable ascribing, but it's not required in order to participate. As our military mutt might say, every post will act as a 'force multiplier' whether you contribute directly or not.

Please, no simple "Bump" posts; bumps are only inherently interesting to highway engineers and dermatologists. If you feel the thread is lagging, post something that may conceivably be interesting to at least one person on the planet-- time/temp in Burkina Faso; what your dog's thinking; caloric content of deadly nightshade for suicidal folks trying to watch their weight, etc..

And for those who knew and cherished dog, I invite you to at least once during your week, do something for someone that you wouldn't ordinarily do, no matter how small and dedicate it to dog. I encourage you to share your "doggie-do's" here so that we may see that dog continues to to help in some small way..

So happy to see the continuation of the Dog Pound! In honor of Dog, I promise to take my English Springer Spaniel, Toby, to the beach on my day off Wednesday, and say a silent "Hello" to Dog up in the sky, wherever he may be. Will also make a contribution to ESS Rescue.

I can't believe as I read the last posts in the dog pound I choked up and almost cried. Some of it for dog, some for KK (or whatever you are calling yourself today, but in my heart you are always KK.)
So, on to DPII. Let the joy ride begin!

Just got back from a wonderful dinner at a seafood buffet. I don't usually do seafood buffets as I don't really like fish that has set on heat...want it fresh from the pan to the table, but yummy crab legs, stuffed flounder, deviled crab, and (wait for it)......kielbasa in some kind of white wine sauce! Double yummy.
Now sitting on the balcony, watching a very active thunderstorm over the Atlantic Ocean. Beautiful.

edited to remove the remark to the poster below me...sorry.

Cheers - Toast - Yippee!

I know I only pop out of lurkdome a couple times a year but I did not want to miss this celebration.

On the newly polished buffet the elves have set out Champagne Punch, Tequila straight up and non-alcoholic fun punch (for those that do not imbibe - it is still fizzy). They have also set out doggie treats and kitty kibble for all the furry significant others of the dog pound!

KK - Get Well SOON.

Dog may you be smiling on us all with your remembered kindness, wit and wisdom! We surely miss you.....

I did my best to ignore the intrusion and move us past it with far more restraint than I usually find in my repertoire. In the memory of dog. He made me a better person.

I came late to the party so did not know dog well, but know he was a gentleman in the truest sense of the word. He is missed and so I've come to give a nod in his direction again.

KK--be well.

This totally cracked me up. As some of you may know there is a very contentious bid for the senate seat in Kentucky between Rand Paul and Jack Conway. According to MSNBC, "Paul said he might skip the final debate after a recent Conway TV ad appeared claiming Paul, as a college student, tied up a woman and made her worship a false idol called 'Aqua Buddha'."

HA! I KNEW it! People have been worshiping KK for years. Rand Paul was just saw the light earlier than some of us.

PJ, I'll add to your champagne buffet by taking a leaf out of flippy flops book (or is that a fin out of her fish?) and setting up a seafood buffet that has everything you could ever want in fish/seafood, with all the appropriate sides. Also, English trifle, petit fours, freshly-made fruit salad, several different kinds of pie.

Enjoy, everyone! Hope to see all the regulars (and anyone new) here soon! The couches and chairs have been reupholstered, the fireplace cleaned and scrubbed to remove soot stains, the tables polished, and some new handknit throws/afghans tossed over the couches.

Oh, and I brought in a bigger fridge, too. (-:

It's going to be rainy and chilly here today. Perfect sleeping weather after a crazy night shift. I'm going to pull up that nice comfy chair in the corner by the fireplace and relax. If my snoring gets to anyone, just poke me. ;)

PS For everyone worried about the Great Kowboyski, he'll be back.

Good morning all! You can't imagine how sad I was to come in and not have one email in my "Dog Pound" folder in my email. :-( But I was heartened when I saw the new DP II alive and kicking! Thanks to Brain Wave for getting it started!

For the buffet I am tossing in some Pumpkin Whoopie Pies with Maple Marshmallow Filling. Mmm! In fact, I think it's time for a recipe! :)

Pumpkin Whoopie Pies with Maple-Marshmallow Cream Filling

FILLING
* 1 cup powdered sugar, sifted
* 1 cup butter, room temperature
* 1 7-ounce jar marshmallow creme
* 2 teaspoons maple extract
CAKE
* 3 cups all purpose flour
* 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
* 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
* 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
* 3/4 teaspoon salt
* 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
* 3/4 teaspoon ground cloves
* 6 tablespoons butter, room temperature
* 1 cup (packed) golden brown sugar
* 1/2 cup sugar
* 1/2 cup vegetable oil
* 3 large eggs
* 1 15-ounce can pure pumpkin
* 1/2 cup milk
* Nonstick vegetable oil spray
FILLING
* Using electric mixer, beat sugar and butter in large bowl until fluffy, about 2 minutes. Add marshmallow creme and maple extract; beat until blended and smooth.
CAKE
* Sift first 7 ingredients into large bowl. Using electric mixer, beat butter and both sugars in another large bowl until blended. Gradually beat in oil. Add eggs 1 at a time, beating to blend between additions. Beat in pumpkin. Add dry ingredients and beat until well mixed.

Oven at 350°F. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment; spray lightly with nonstick spray. Spoon batter onto baking sheet to form cakes (about 3 level tablespoons each; about 12 per baking sheet), spacing apart. Let stand 10 minutes. (this helps them be flat, not too puffy to fill)

Bake about 20 mins or until tester comes out clean. Cool completely on rack.

Fill with about 2 T filling.

Eat and enjoy! ;)

Woohoo, jedigirl! The first recipe in the new dog pound! My husband would like that one--I'll have to make it for him.

Today is a good day; I found out that the job I've been waiting to hear officially about is mine--it starts in January. Now I just have to find a way to get a paycheck for November and December. (-:

Awesome on the new job flipoid!!! Maybe something temporary for the holiday season but in your field will pop up for November and December, lots of people taking vacations and holidays might help you find something filling in for those who are out.
