Does anyone know a app or program which will enable installation of a VPN network on the Kindle Fire. It is a simple option on most android devices

under More - Security there's a link called VPN that says you have to download an app from amazon that is compatible with your organizations' VPN

don't know if that's any help

What is the purpose of having apps that do not work? It makes not sense.

It's not that the apps don't work, they just don't work with Susan's particular network.

You need an app that loads the protocols used by the particular system's hardware; Cisco for example.

I need PPTP. Any advice on that?

Amazon hasn't seen fit to enable full VPN support on the Fire. That's one of the main reasons I switched to a Nexus 7. I use mine frequently in Central America and need a US-based VPN to access Netflix, etc. The Nexus 7 has full VPN support. It's easy to set up and works perfectly.

Is there another setting I need first? I see no apps or VPN under more security.

it's not further down the page? And I have a Kindle Fire HD.

I posted that back in October before the last two updates came through which may have changed things (it did change some menus) - I'll check when I get home from work in about 7 hours

OK, I'm looking on my Kindle Fire HD - when I click on the More (plus sign), I see

Help & Feedback
My Account
Applications
Parental Controls
Sounds & Display
Wireless
Device
Location-based services
Language & Keyboard
Security
Legal & Compliance

and when I click on Security, I see

Lock Screen Password
Credential Storage
VPN
Device Administrators
Enable ADB

Clicking on VPN gives me the following message: To use your kindle on a virtual private network (VPN), you need to download an app from the Amazon Appstore that is compatible with your organization's VPN.

and a button to go to the App Store

I have the Cisco VPN client installed on my Fire HD. It works beautifully.

I knew someone had to be using it - do you enable it through the settings or what?

it would likely be appreciated if you told people how to do it - I don't need it and can't install most amazon apps, so I can't walk people through ti

I just downloaded Cisco AnyConnect from the Amazon app store. It installed without any problem, I didn't have to change any settings. I just put in the address of the VPN server at my work, put in my username and password, and it connected.

wonder why people are still griping about it then?

Because not everyone has Cisco VPN. I have PPTP and there is no way to setup it. Even side-loaded apps don't work. (that means installed from apk to have apps that are not available in AApp Store).

Tigervpns VPN Client

This one supposedly works with the Fire HD 8.9 and PPTP VPN. I have not tried it, myself.

Thanks for the try. I need to use my own VPN, not to pay some other provider.
From app description:
With this app, users are standing on the shoulders of a wide range of vpn servers running in the United States, United Kingdom and Japan, pptp and l2tp/ipsec are well supported. What's more, users dont need to configure anything by themselves, the app handles all vpn settings automatically.
The greatest thing about this app is that it gives every user 100MB free traffic for evaluation, no registration is needed at all! Just click the free demo button, system will create demo account automatically.

So the difference I see is that I do not have a Kindle Fire HD; only a Fire. So apparently I cannot do some of this fun stuff. I think l'll give my Kindle to the kids and get an HD. Merry Christmas to me.
