D. Perkins says:
This morning I turned on my kindle, and it didn't turn on. I charged it and it still wouldn't turn on. I made sure that I had flipped the on switch and not the wifi. I have used it before without problems.

Has anyone else had this problem, and how can I fix it?

*Author's Note: Thank you. I have now fixed the problem and my kindle is working fine.

This is just a discussion board. You need to call Amazon Kindle Support for help.

J. Langer says:
While the Kindle is plugged in, remove the back cover and push a paper clip in the reset hole near the battery. It should reset and start. Of course, if that doesn't work, call Support! They are great.

Merrill Lee says:
Did you try resetting it. Take the back off the kindle and put a straightened paper clip in the little reset hole.

You have opened a very old thread. Disregard everything posted above yours - those posts all relate to the first generation Kindle.

What do you see on the Kindle screen?

Laura the OP was from 2008 so he/she was talking about the original kindle K1. What kind of kindle do you have??

Carbonbased says:
Once you are convinced it is fully charged, unplug it from the cable.
Hold the power switch over to the right for 30 seconds (count) then let go and put your kindle down and go get a cup of chamomile tea.
Restarting and repopulating home page may take several minutes.
Repopulating the Archive will require a wireless connection.

Let the record show that no one asked the OP to read the manual.

Maybe the posters were less snarky in 2008.

Glad you're back in business. Don't worry about Phillip, I don't think HE has any hair, either.

And, NC? They didn't tell the OP in 2008 (or now) to read the manual because it's on the device.

I have a Kindle 3 (I think) for a few years & had to reset it once a long time ago. So today it won't turn on, just after buying a new book. I remember the "hold the power on for 30 seconds" thing but this does nothing. I have it plugged in to the charger, so it isn't a flat battery. I see things about a reset button hole, but there is nothing on the back - I assume this applies to an older version. Any ideas?

Um, ok I was watching TV and was otherwise distracted, and it suddenly started to reboot, maybe 10 minutes later. I'm posting this anyway, so if you do try to reboot your Kindle, wait 10 minutes before it does anything...

Just Peachy says:
Umm....that original post is from 2008. The Kindles back then had a reset button hole.

I was foolish and paid a "technician" $ 35 to assist at justanswer that I tracked through askville. My Kindle will not work after I dropped it. His advice was to hold for 30 seconds! Of course I had done this prior to asking for help. My Kindle still does not start and I have learnt a serious lesson in not believing everything you read. Does a kindle D00901 have a reset button? Call Kindle Customer Service.

Marimar

You need WHAT? :)

Anyhow, try a reboot.
Press and hold the power button a full 30 seconds, ignoring any changes in the power light or the screen.
Release the power button, then press and release it quickly to turn it on.
It should reboot within a few minutes. If not, plug the charger in and let it charge a few hours. If it didn't reboot in that time, try again.

You can contact Kindle Customer service at https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/contact-us?ie=UTF8&nodeId=508510&

Don't use the email option. Use the chat or select phone. They call back very quickly if you use the phone option.
