I just bought my son a Kindle Fire for his birthday. He received some gift certificates and that is the only way that he will be allowed to purchase items. However with 1 click he can't buy anything (even free items) without a credit card number and address, which I don't want to add. How can my son use his gift certificates?

add his gift certificate to your account, and buy things as gifts to his account? that's the only workaround i can see right away.

I ran into this with a tablet I gave to the maintenance man at the retirement home where I live. I called Amazon support and they told me what to do. Unfortunately I don't recall now what that was.

He refused to get an Amazon account so I set up one he could use and funded it with gift cards that he paid for, which is pretty much the same thing you're doing. It worked just fine. I'd call Amazon support and ask what you can do.

By the way, if it matters, this wasn't a Kindle Fire. The requirements for the Fire may be different.

Thanks! I have searched the site for a phone number but can't find one. At least I know it is somewhere, I just have to find it.

You can buy Visa or MasterCard Debit cards at the same places you get gift cards, when the amount gets low, you can add funds to them. This will allow him to have his own account without being attached to your credit card.
