If I use Kindle mainly for reading books, would Paperwhite give me a better quality for reading than Kindle Fire HD? Really can not decide which one to choose.

For mainly reading, you really can't beat the PW. It's readable in ALL lighting situations.

For just reading, the Paperwhite or Basic is far superior to the Fire. But if you wish to have other uses, e-mail, browsing, games, etc., the Fire is far superior to the Paperwhite, because e-mail and browsing on the Paperwhite are terrible, and games are rudimentary (but fun).

"...mainly reading books..."

What else do you think you might want a Kindle for? The PW is first and foremost an e-reader. An excellent one, but that's really all it does. You can play a few games (I think), and slog the internet, but the PW is really a one-trick pony.

Don't get me wrong - I ***love*** my KK (older model Kindle) for what I can do with it (read books), but if you want more functionality, it might not be the right choice.

RJ, it's really not a fair choice between the two devices, as they truly have two completely different use-profiles.

Games/apps, videos, music, and web browsing, the Fire are great multi-media devices!

Long-period reading of books in whatever lighting you find yourself in? The PW all the way!

Thank you, guys. Your answers really help me to make the right choice for me at the moment. It seems it will be PW. And for future I can add The Kindle Fire, so I am not stuck to the heavy laptop. Thanks a lot :)

>>would Paperwhite give me a better quality for reading than Kindle Fire HD?<<

Yes. It actually doesn't matter *what* you use either for, your question is about "quality for reading". An e-ink's reading experience is vastly superior to a backlit device. The only exceptions to that are if most of what you read is pdf (often doesn't display in a good size on the 6" screen) or colour (e-ink kindles are only greyscale).

So if you're going to use the kindle mainly for reading books, the real question is "what kind of books", not "e-ink or backlit".
