My friend's Kindle Fire won't open the web browser. I have gone onto the Amazon store and email and those are working but when I try to open her web, it goes right back to the home page. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try a hard reset by holding down the power button for thirty seconds.

Some people have found clearing the history and data in the browser helps. I don't have a Fire so can't tell you exactly where but it's in the browser settings.

Tried it twice...no luck. Thanks

Can't get the browser open to clear the history. Did it on my own Fire to see how to do it and you have to open the browser... Thanks.

@Jennifer D. Benson

Try this:

Tap the Settings Icon "Gear" in the upper right corner,

Tap the More Button,

Scroll down to the Application Button, and tap that,

Select All Applications,

Scroll down to where it says Browser, and tap that,

Tap Force Stop.

Now select the Home Icon, the little house in the lower left corner.

Now reopen the web browser and see if it opens & stays open. Then you can get to the browser settings if you need to do so.

If that fails, I'd suggest a reset of the web browser itself. Same steps as above except on the last step you "Clear Data".

That step *will* delete your browser's bookmarks & passwords but should fix the browser.

THANK YOU...You answered my question completely. I had to actually do the clear data to be able to get on the internet...it sucks that I lost passwords but I can at least use the net again.

Thanks Get Excited!,

Had the same problem. Everything would download, but I couldn't get on the web at all. Went through your steps, had to clear data and now I can get on the web. Thank you for your excellent, detailed answer. I knew my answer was somewhere in these discussion pages.

Thank you so much Get Excited. This was so helpful. I would never have figured it out. You were very gracious to take the time to explain that. God bless you.

I had the same problem with my browser and clearing the data fixed it. Seems like Amazon would fix that.

I have the same problem! It says I'm connected to the network, but the web won't work, and none of the tips in the manual worked either. Neither did clearing my data.

I also have an "x" next to my signal bars. This has never happened before and I don't know why it's happeneing now. Never used to have trouble getting on the web before, now even though it says I'm connected to the nextwork, the web won't come up. Netflix, etc. won't work either. I did a hard reset, cleared my data, but none of it worked. Help!

Sorry Jenifer. There is still one out here that the "fix" doesn't work for. I do not have a "Browser" on the Application page.
